Delighted or Disappointed?

Hi everyone

I am not sure if this is normal - I am finding that after a fasting day if I have something rich like a piece of cake I am rushing to the bathroom with bad stomach cramps

Friday we fasted & then went out for lunch thinking we would be healthy & had gyoza & sushi at this new Japanese place. The serves were huge so we hubby & I both ended upp eating far more than we should have. Went shopping after & 1/ way through had to race to the bathroom with terrible wind, pain & well lunch didnt seem to last in my stomach....

Is this normal & how do you control it??? Any advice would be great

Am trying to eat lightly today ( but not fasting )

Thanks heaps
Umm, yes, it can happen  . I think there is a thread on bloating, and other rear end activities somewhere! I also get constipation, even drinking a small lake every fast day. Just as well I love prunes and figs
I have also found I can no longer eat large amounts of rich food, the trick is to realise before you start and limit yourself. good luck with future fasts, it will improve.
hi @TMighell, yes I find the day after fasting I do need to be quite careful, especially early in the day and with carbs. Otherwise, nausea & cramps & diarrhoea (what's the TLA for that (three letter acronym)? TMI? - goodness knows what that stands for). And my belly has certainly found its voice - all manner of gurgles and groans, which I've never had before. Love to think what might be happening to all my gastrointestinal hormones - they do say that the gut has almost as many hormones & nerves as the brain! But I do think the problem is more common in the early weeks of fasting and will hopefully settle down with time. good luck & happy fasting!
Most people on here have found that after fasting it's best to not have a huge meal like this ... And with loads of carbs, as this sort of upset will result. And a piece of rich cake is definitely not a good idea, as your system just won't be able to cope. Take it easy on the day after a fast - you will find that you will choose eventually to eat smaller portions naturally, and that your taste for things like cake and sugary things will decrease.
I've been plagued with stomach cramps on non-fast days throughout my time doing 5:2/4:3. I don't get them every time I eat a lot or eat carbs (thankfully), but there does seem to be a link. I've also not found a cure. It just passes, so to speak.
My gut is so much more chilled on fast days, agree with debs that no matter how much fluids consumed have to have prunes to help things along on non fast days. Prunes are my new best friends. I also can really feel the tenderness in my gut when I consume wheat now but I also know it used to be the broom so to speak. The bloating is common as others say depending on the amount and what you eat.

This is the conundrum I find the 5:2 Fast Days become the easiest, the non fast days need some kind of sorting out by trial and error until you get your head around what your new way of eating is going to be.
I have also had some slight tummy probs the day after a fast. I had a massive glass of fresh orange juice once and it did go straight through. I now tend to have something like poached egg on toast (yes toast) about 11.30 -12.30 the day after a fast and that seems to be fine. I just think that with the stomach being empty gets over excited and wants to make up for not doing much the day before!
