Disappointed but undeterred
24 Feb 2013, 08:38
Can't help but feel down that I have only managed to lose 1lb in my first week. Having been a serial dieter for decades I have always had that very satisfying 3-4lb loss in the first week which although I know is mainly water, still feels good and makes the 'journey' (i hate that word!) feel less daunting. So am feeling rather sorry for myself on this grey morning with no cm loss either. BUT I did find the 2 fast days very easy to deal with, I stuck to suggested menus from the book with nothing between breakfast and supper and drank plenty of water. On the other 5 days I have been watchful of not overdoing it, with one possible exception........ Is half a bottle of wine a night a bit too much? Oh, and exercise is a bit of anathema too! apart from some energetic wallpaper stripping. Any words of advice gratefully accepted.

Sorry to hear you're disappointed Barbybarb- you're loss may be less than usual, but you have lost, not gained , and found the way of eating (rather than diet) quite easy. Just think how deprived you may have been on a restricted diet and maybe not lost anything.
It is very early days. Can't really offer much in the way of advise re what to eat and drink etc- there are people on here with so much knowledge which they generously share. Can offer encouragement and moral support though.
You're doing great!

Some weeks I do not lose. Some weeks I have even put on a little bit. But overall it is slowly coming down. So, looking at this as a way of life now.

Basically, a much slower way to lose weight and week-to-week losses are hidden by natural weight fluctuations.

A pound of fat is 3500 cals approx, that's a lots of calories!

Hi barby barb & welcome to the forum!
If it helps (at all) think of it this way: you 'dieted' for two days and lost a pound! Does that sound better? After all you still had your vino!
I have found that I'm just not bothered about the wine after 5 weeks on this WOE. Believe you me, that is VERY strange for me! People are taking the mickey out of me! I've quit the fags, the booze ( in the house at least still like to drink when I go out!) & now I've started to do some exercise. I don't recognise myself so I can hardly expect friends and family to! I had already stopped smoking before I started 5:2, I gained 2stone substituting the evil cigs for family size bars of chocolate :o
Anyway obviously I'm just off to polish my halo, let's hope I'm not eating my words in a few months time

Best of luck!

You need to give it a month before you settle into this way of life. It isn't a diet, this is very different. Image getting control over food - over time that is what I'm beginning to feel. I've just had a bacon buttie, packet of crisps and a giant cookie for lunch but that is ok. What I've noticed from the forum is that a lot of folk (who fast on a Mon and Thurs) eat lower than TDEE on Tues and Wed so that they can indulge at the weekend. Perhaps try and keep the wine for Fri, Sat, Sun. For me treats are now something to look forward to and not a twice daily occurrence. This does work, it's just a long term thing.

Thanks all so much for the feedback and support, much appreciated and really good to hear from you. I've got to stem my natural impatience and just get on with it and give it time. A great observation Claire007, I've lost a pound after only 2 days fasting! Way to go Barbybarb!
