Possible progress?
29 Mar 2013, 15:20
Not sure if this is progress, but I wanted to share with you anyway. I started dieting the normal (calorie counting!) way last November and gradually lost 10lbs so I went from 11 stone 3 to 10 stone 7 in 4 months. Given that I'm 5 ft 8 my weight was in the normal range of the BMI but I did have pretty high body fat 35% as measured at my gym. My body fat % didn't reduce significantly on losing the 10lbs.
So then on 15th Feb 6 weeks ago I started 5:2 because I wanted to see if I could get my fat % down, around 4 weeks ago I also started a lifting heavy gym routine again aimed at trying to lose fat. Before that I was exercising and have always exercised but it was a bit spasmodic. Anyway, 6 weeks in I've lost 7lbs and my body fat has reduced to 30% so is nw in the normal range.
Not sure if its worth making too much of this. Agreed that at around 10 stone you wold expect me to have lower body fat, but it does seem like a great decrease nearly 5% on a 7lb weight loss whereas when I was dieting normally I wasn't losing a significant proportion of fat.
For what it's worth, I'm putting this all down to 5:2. I'm getting the results I want at last. I'm going to take a two week break over Easter and then resume after that. I may even increase weight as I build muscle with my killer gym regime but ideally want to get the fat % to 25.
