Persevering

Fasting today after 4 weeks and a 1 and half pound gain this morning :-( .
Unfortunately I'm a bit all or nothing, so I know I've been over doing it on feast days but I suppose I thought I could get away with it as I had a good loss 1st 2 weeks. Still 3 pounds lost overall so going to try and count calories this week to gain control and see what happens next week.
Fingers crossed!

Hi & welcome MrsApps!

It's great that despite your slight regain you've still lost almost 1lb a week :) That's around the average so don't worry!

It's also fairly normal for the scales to jump about a bit in the first few weeks as your body's fat/water balance changes - water lost initially, then fat lost but some water regained. It can help to use scales which measure body fat & water % so you can see if fluctuations are down to water retention or not.

That said, if you feel you've overindulged in the last week or so, it's good that you recognise this. Actually many of us go through a 'feast' phase where we overeat a bit because we think we can. That phase does pass as well.

Do let us know how you get on, and be sure to drop by for any tips or support you might need!

Hi MrsApps,

I'm in the same boat as you! I've seen a gain the last two weeks so this week I am monitoring my calories and I'm hoping I'll see a loss at the weekend. I think being told you can eat what you like on feast days (or "normally" is the official version) gives people like me carte blanche to go mad after years of being restricted on other diets but as has been discussed elsewhere on this forum, "normal" means different things to different people and we need to test out both the diet and how our bodies react to it. It's a case of finding what is a correct level of food we can eat on feast days whilst still losing weight. It sounds like you have been successful your first two weeks and the gain came over Easter so maybe it's not going to be a normal pattern for you, I wish you lots of success and hope you start to lose again. Good luck.

Carole x

Thank you for your comments, it's great to know I'm not the only having a wobble - literally in my case ; )

It's a bit uncomfortable realising that my version of normal is probably quite a bit over my tdee most days but hey, that's why I'm here.

I would really like to get to a point where I don't have to count calories every day as that's the appeal of 5:2 but I think for a little while I need to make sure I'm really conscious of what I'm having on feast days as well as fast days so I can see where I'm going wrong.

Here's to a better week!

I think my normal is also quite a bit over my tdee too. But the fasting sorts it out, if slower than some on this forum. There does seem to be an increasing amount of people who are fasting more than 2 days, not having their 500 cals on fast days & restricting their cals on normal days, which I find negates 5:2. I'm very pleased with my 11lbs lost even if it works out at slightly less than 1lb a week.
