Yay I did it!
19 Apr 2013, 17:35
I weighed myself today after my first week (8 days containing 3 fast days), and I have lost 6lbs!!! :victory: I am so happy, so I celebrated with a breakfast of scrambled egg and toast. It's been 5 hours and I'm still full. I've been careful on my feast days, but I have had whatever I wanted, just not pigged out. The fasting days have got better with each one, and the dizziness I experienced the first day, along with the crankiness on the second day, have all gone. I've also lost an inch off my waist.

I'm really hoping that I have finally found the eating plan that will see me through the rest of my life. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure a couple of years ago, so I'm looking forward to seeing that come down too. I haven't had a cholesterol test in a while, but I know it was a bit on the high side before. I'm confident that this woe is going to improve all those figures in time.

Even though this week hasn't been too hard for me, I know that being able to come to this place, and read all the inspiring posts and stories, has made it all the more successful. Thank you everyone for making this forum so special.

Hope everyone else is doing well out there.

Fantastic start Janice and congratulations! I'm sure that as you continue on this road your BP and cholesterol stats will improve too. Don't expect to continue losing at this rate because the first week is always the best (as with all diets) but it is also the hardest and it seems like your body is already adapting to this new way of eating. Keep up the good work and keep updating the Tracker here!

Thank you Dominic. Oh yes, I've been through the whole great first week thing before only to see it all slow down after that. I wouldn't want to continue to lose at this rate anyway as I'm sure that wouldn't be advisable. I'm also giving myself a pep talk to not go down the road of 'as I've lost so much I can have that extra helping of...'. Not a good idea either!

I love the Progress Tracker, especially as it's showing 'progress'

Try ... "as I've lost so much I can have a new nail varnish/pair of earrings/magazine etc" - a much nicer reward which will boost your enthusiasm without spoiling all your hard work! Part of the reason we are all on here is that we have had a lifetime of rewarding or consoling ourselves with food.

What a great way to start! You must be very proud of yourself.

Regarding the rate of lose it, take it as it comes, it's not like you're losing 5 kilos a week (if only, LOL)!

Hey Janice

Congrats! This is the end of my first week so I am a newbie too but the weightloss has been outstanding not to mention the changes in my hunger trigger on non-fast days.

I like that you called it an "eating plan" and not a diet. I really feel this is a huge shift in how we approach the program. To me "diet" has always equaled deprivation. And whilst we are depriving ourselves during 5:2 it is only for such a short time.

Good luck! I am keen to see how the next 3-4 weeks go and am a bit excited. :victory:

Well done Janice, a brilliant start. I agree with Tass, a non-food treat is definitely in order!

Thank you everyone!

mspippa: Well done to you too. I hope the coming weeks will be great for us. I prefer to call this an eating plan, as I hope this will be a plan that I follow for the rest of my life. Thinking that I'll have to 'diet' for the rest of my life is more than I can bear to think about!

Don't worry, I have no intention of rewarding myself with extra food or treats. I was saying that as I understand that it wouldn't be a good idea to look at it that way, so I will make sure I don't do that. Thanks for the advice!
