Edit - I probably should say more, but I guess I don't need to !
Please don't beat yourself up about it! I hope you enjoyed what you ate. I went out today, overate, but I knew that would happen. Tomorrow I'll eat a bit more sensibly, then fast on Thursday!
Annie, if you enjoyed it don't regret it!
enjoy the freedom to do these things, you can always adjust on another day if you need too.
A fabulous restaurant in France -oh I should be so lucky....

I'm sure that you will be able to work around it this week Annie without too much damage.
Thans guys, I know it will sort itself out, and I don't mind if I lose nothing in a week, but I would so hate to gain :( & i'm on holiday next week ith my mother-in-law visiting so now wasn't the right time to slip.

On the positive side I had one of the best meals I've had for a very long time & only 10 mins down the road, so I think they'll be seeing me again!
AnnieD - enjoy the moments and then back to 5:2 after your hols - remember it's "one day at a time!"
I am doing the 5:2 diet so that I can enjoy my food.
You should feel guilty about feeling guilty for eating too much.
Eating too much: The admission that I am human - thanks mum for the extra helping - lovely mash!
Although I agree with the others, I totally feel for you. I went to two wonderful restaurant on Sunday evening and Monday afternoon and although I was within my TDEE and ate less than I usually ate when I went out, my scales show a kilo gained. I don't regret going but I'm also sad...

Who cares aboput TDEE. The whole point of 5:2 is to eat what you want on feast days. I can't calorie count because that is dieting.

If your scales make you feel guilty then throw them out. Happiness is no scales and a changing body shape...
Peter, no can do. If I had no scales, I would need new doors.

LOL I know how you feel
Annie, all my adult life I never went above 58 kilos because I was weighing daily. I was eating like a pig but as soon as I put on a kilo I zipped my mouth close till I lost it (it usually took a day or two of fasting, only then I didn't know what I was doing, LOL).
And although some frown upon daily weighing, I know that if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't realised that I gained 4 kilos in 10 days, additionally to the 2 kilos in a month (which I was struggling to lose) I wouldn't rush to the doctor's and I wouldn't know about my thyroid problem before I'd gained 5, 6, 8 kilos.
The same happened when PCOS showed up, a few years back. I think that when I gain weight in a short of period of time it is my body's way to tell me "help, I'm not well"!!!
I think good restaurants serve up better food with less calories than the junk served at fast food joints. However, we do need to be mindful of what we order and how much we eat, for the long haul, because eating out at restaurants is part of life and fun.

Each person can develop their own strategy for dealing with restaurant meals. Some people just order appetizers, or they send away the bread basket, or they pass on dessert. Depending on the place, you might share an entree or take leftovers home for the next day's lunch.
BarbieCat1 - what a lot of excellent ideas & advice - shame I didn't do any of those things LOL
