What happened to my waist?
01 May 2013, 15:49
This is me at the end of my 36 hour fast today,

Good morning World,

Its now 9 am and I have yet to break my fast, will probably have bacon and eggs at 11 or 12 ish, well into 40 plus hours of fasting. Haven't had much sleep, it was gone 6 am before I eventually nodded of for about an hour but I feel surprisingly awake, at the moment. I have dropped 1/2 a stone which has shocked me so I shall have good fun putting that weight on again, my legs which looked like drumsticks now look more like chopsticks and my 28.5" waist, which I am desperate to get smaller, now measures a magnificent 29"! and  !

So, apart from the mental euphoria of achievement, I didn't get what I wanted from this, :frown: oh well, I've got the Actiderm trial looming so we shall see if that reduces my waist.

As its such a lovely morning I'm off to sit in the garden with a coffee and ponder where I went wrong!!!! :starving:

Ballerina are you sure you measured in the right place, just a few centimetres out can make a difference of an inch. I have ended up doing about 3different measurements for my waist. I know we have been told to measure round the tummy button but my waist is about 1inch above that and is a full 1.5 inches smaller there. Just a thought. :?:

Ooh Ballerina,
What I wouldn't give to have a 29inch waist! I started out at 34 inch waist, went down to 33 within a few weeks and there is has stubbornly remained ever since.
Perhaps it's just fluid though, as you can't have actually gained any fat. Strange though that you mention you didn't sleep very well last night, as I always seem to weigh more and feel bloated when I haven't slept. I always thought it was just co-incidence, but maybe there's a scientific explanation for it.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll be back to an enviable 28.5 inch waist tomorrow and who knows what the Actiderm will do, can't wait to hear about it.

Way to go Ballerina!

29.1, 28.5--I'd take either one!

I went to my insurance health evaluation (Prevention) where the nurse had me hold the end of the measuring tape on my bellybutton (more or less) and spin around (avoiding the awkward hug where they reach around you)and measured. It came out to 30", a full 2" less than I had measured myself. I don't know what the deal is exactly, but I'll take it. :victory:

Weight was 152 (2 lbs. higher than two days before)
Blood pressure was 112/70 (I'm often 110/70)
Pulse was 76
I won't know the blood results for 1-2 wks.
Fasting today--so far so good!

First of all, well done on fasting so long! I can't manage over 16 hours (counting sleep) :/
I think your waist will shrink again after a good night's sleep :)

I'd do a lot for a 29 inch waist. Mine is annoyingly stuck at 34"!

WELL DONE for 36 hours of fasting, I don't think I'd manage that :)

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, my waist started out at 36" so to get to 29 is fantastic  but I was just so stunned to have gone down 7lbs and yet my waist had gone up, it just didn't seem to make any sense. I measure in the same place every time so it should be consistent, ah well, I feel great and that is the most important thing, all else just immaterial detail :victory:

My waist drove me mad yesterday. The combination of constipation and that time of the month has very bad side effects!!!

Good morning all,

Had a great night's sleep so am feeling on top of the world this morning. My waist has now gone back down to 28.5" and only 1 of the 7 lbs I lost has gone back on. Anyone who fancies doing a 36 hour plus fast I would say, go for it, it will really shake you up and the mental benefits are great. I would like do it again but probably will not as I am now way under my target weight and no one needs 1/2 stone of 'wiggle room'!

I shall, however, enjoy how everyone else manages on their big fasts.
:victory:

Pleased to hear that your waist has shrunk again Ballerina. I enjoyed reading your account of the 36er but not yet brave enough to try it myself. Great weight loss too although you didn't need it. I have a silly waist measuring question that I reckon you can answer please if you don't mind (or anyone else that cares to chip in)........ As a definite apple I find it so hard to know where to measure, I have never had a waist even when I was underweight as a teenager (ate like a horse!!) Now I have a definite tummy and my measurement can vary widely depending on whether I am standing relaxed or up straight with my muscles pulled in, if I only I could hold that pose. I measure 39" relaxed and 33.5" with muscles pulled tight (belly button waist) I am 5'4 bmi 24.2 I am happy with the weight I am losing but it all seems to be coming off my upper body and thighs. I know I shouldn't complain but I would feel happier with the tape measure if I knew what everyone else was doing. 39" is shocking!!!! Thanks very much

Hi, my waist measurement is stuck at 28 in but I am happy with that - it is what is below the waist that I would like to reduce but 2x 10lb babies (one at a time!) may make that a bridge too far. Regarding measurements I think using your clothes is a much better bet as you can hold your tummy in or out too easily when measuring.

Thank you Caro, yes, my favourite jeans now go up and down no zip required!! And my favourite skirt is much looser. When I submit my monthly stats I wonder what Caroline will think about my non scientific, non tape measuring data

Hi Wendy Darling,

I don't think it makes much difference exactly where you measure as long as it in the same place every time so as to afford a degree of consistency, also, either breathe in every time or, do not breathe in every time! Whatever you do once you must then do every time to get a good gauge.

Like you I am an apple shape, used to be an apple dumpling shape, but although I have lost a lot of weight the shape is still the same , just smaller. Keep going. You will get there, but, probably like me, you will still have a bigger waist than you want, isn't life a bummer sometimes?

Thank you Ballerina,
Yes, rightho, I will stand up straight, breathe in and pull my tummy in every time. Just wanted your opinion on whether it was cheating or not!
Yes, I am sure I will always be an apple too, but smaller would be good. Could be worse......

Thanks again x
