Delighted or Disappointed?

Well this WOL seems to stop the weight gain that was creeping up on me but still on the
Plateau that I was on two months ago. Did not gain over the week that the in laws were here with their faddy habits and our slow slow slow walks round town. We had a few meals out too, so it is probably a win. And now off to stay with Ma n Pa, so no fasts for a week..and then it is
OH's short holiday...thena friend coming to stay. Dont think I am going to be the shape I hoped to be for nephews . Reading of everyone shedding "only" a pound makes me inwardly scream. I think my average at the end of the year will be a loss of one pound a quarter. I am sure it is doing me good, but really not impressed.
Hellengerin, don't get sucked in to the idea that the weight is flying off everybody, it's not. I haven't lost anything for the past month and my BMI is higher than yours. There are others in a similar situation. If, like me, your diet wasn't that bad before you started 5:2 then your weight loss will be slow because the calorie deficit is not huge. I personally don't want to reduce my calorie intake further on non fast days because then it becomes miserable (and 4:3 doesn't fit into my life) so I've resigned myself to the fact that I need to increase my exercise in order to raise my TDEE. Maybe this would help with you?
Hellengerin, I think Madge gave you very good advice. Have you considered doing HIIT? Carorees recommends it highly and it can be done without any equipment (think jumpingjacks and similar) and takes very little time out of a busy day. I am one of the lucky ones and have been losing weight, but I do have a lot further to go than you. You can find HIIT routines online and the beauty of it is it speeds up the metabolism as much as a more time consuming regime. I have made myself do long brisk daily walks, and sometimes I get fed up with it but it seems to help me. When and if my doctor gives me the ok to start HIIT I will do it. The other major change to my diet is I have been quite ruthless in cutting out white bread, white rice, cakes, biscuits etc. I missed them like hell for the first month, but have found a new love - veggies! Wishing you luck.
At least you haven't put any weight back on and from your post it appears that you are having quite a few meals out and it is difficult to calculate the daily calorie totals compared to your TDEE? I recommend some 'me time' or a bit of pampering or retail therapy. I found that cutting out the starches as mentioned by dhana above really gave me a boost - not only in losing weight, but also increasing my energy levels.
Are you not impressed with the 5:2 plan or with the fact that life keeps getting in the way of you following it?
Thank you for your replies...I think I am slightly fed up with the slowest of progress! I actually rather like the fasting days, and it is interesting that life interferes with the regime! But less so than forever counting calories and then falling off the wagon.
I have not had the exercise this first quarter due to weather and illness! I know that has had an effect generally but now feeling so much better, I actually want to be active again. Shows how off colour I was. Not too keen on HIIT after Andrew Marrs experience but will checkout website when back home. My diet has normally been healthy enough plus social cakery!..
Hi, I have also not lost since the initial 6 weeks a couple of months ago. In fact I have crept up a kg since I upped my exercise but my measurements are still down so I think maybe it is muscle.
I would love to lose another 2 kg but if I stay here and don't put any on during our winter I think that should be good.
So this WOL has avert varied effect. Interesting really. I am not sure if any other diet has produced such a candid response from participants. Maybe because you can't really "fail" like you inevitably do on ww or SW. You either fast or you don't.but I think it shows how differently every body works. There seems to be no common factor...is my humble opinion. But old like to see a more enthusiastic response from my scales!!!
Yes I would like my scales to be moving a bit more dramatically as well :). I'm just looking at this like a long term project now though so I'm not stressing about it. The weight has crept up slowly over a long period of time so it's reasonable to expect it will fall off at the same rate. Like Caro, mine actually went up a bit when I started increasing the exercise about 5 weeks ago but am confident I will see the benefits eventually..... just got to be patient.
I lost steadily the first 3 weeks, nothing on the 4th wek and now another pound this week, my fifth week on the WOE.

I'm hoping it doesn't stall now :O
