Trying to keep hope
08 May 2013, 12:30
I've been at this 4 weeks now (on this go-round) - lost 2.8kg after the first week, stayed exactly the same the second week and now, after the third week, seem to have gained 100g.

I know that effectively means I've stayed the same again, and I'm still on track for a net loss of around 1.5lb a week, but I'm a little scared for next week. When I did this last year I ended up losing one single pound in 3 months. I really don't want to end up like that again, particularly as I had gained almost a stone between stopping 5:2 in December and starting up again in April. I've been exercising this time, every single day, but hadn't during the last time at all. I'm hoping that will help.

Pep talk gratefully received!

1.5 lb a week lost!? That is fantastic! More than the forum average. Have you measured? There are a lot of things going on under the skin with this WoE. I wouldn't worry about a gain of 100g, lots of reasons for that. When you use muscle, it gets these little tears in it, the muscle retains water to make the repairs, then it will release the fluid. There are other factors to consider, as well. Hormones play a very big part of a woman's weight, and salt intake, and food still in the gut. I watch the scales go up and down everyday (found out my flip flops weigh 1/2 a pound, now I weigh in barefeet, lol  ). Please, just keep doing what you are doing, your progress so far looks great. You will see a shift in the scales (down) soon. :)

Hiya, I'm in the same sort of boat! Lost in my first week but haven't the past two and haven't gone near the scales this week because I'm sure I've gained.

To be honest, all that I've read here and everywhere else has kept me positive enough to stick at it. I'm sure someone will hop on here soon and tell you the sciency bits of TDEE, I've just worked mine out today (http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/) and decided that I must be going over on my daily calories.

Also, this is a long-term plan. I'm very bad at these as I always preferred crash diets where I'd lose half a stone in a couple of weeks, but really I know that if I'm going to lose long-term it's going to be a slow process. This is not a quick fix, it's a positive change to the way you think and act around food! But it is difficult when you hear stories about people losing every week.

My answer is: do some research, try new things, count calories on your feed days. That's what I'm planning to do. So much of weight loss is feeling positive. If you're like me, you'll reach for the chocolate when you're bored/lazy/upset. So stay positive and focus on how good it feels to fast. Also, get the tape measure out! I lost no weight last week but lost inches which helped me to feel better. Sometimes the scales aren't very reliable (like Betsysg8 just said).

Sorry for the ramble, but I know how hard this is. I'm going through the same thing!

I had about 3 weeks after the first week when I stayed the same. I don't think it's uncommon.
Just keep at it and you will eventually start moving again. X
