Housework makes you fat
09 May 2013, 11:42
:frown: Well, today is my official weigh and measure day. Got up at 7, weighed myself (twice) and had a nice 2 pound loss since last Thursday-very pleased :like:

Took kids to school, came back, had a small cup of coffee (nothing else) and spent an hour on my knees scrubbing my kitchen floor (which is now gleaming at me ).

Went to take my measurements to record, hopped on the scales again to do a fat and water analysis and my 2 pounds has come back  How did that happen?? Weighed 3 times and my scales are newish and good quality so trust them. It has just reappeared! My meausrements haven't changed either!

Just proves that cleaning is fattening!

Ha! Ha! just imagine how much more you would have weighed if you hadn't done such a good job in scrubbing your floor!

Well in that case I'm never doing housework again. Thanks Shamac for the great excuse

I have found that I am at my lightest first thing in the morning. I am not sure why this is but I do know that you can lose a lot of water overnight through perspiration. So maybe, and this is just a guess, your body gets a little heavier once you have had a drink?
I have stopped micro managing myself, I would weigh myself 3 to 4 times a day!, and try to only weigh myself once a week at the same time of day (mornings), slowly but surely the weight is coming off. Don't let it put you off and keep scrubbing those floors!

Housework is definitely overrated in my opinion but, still, I hoover the sitting room every month, whether it needs it or not. If that's going to make me gain weight, I'll stop doing it altogether.

I'm sure I read somewhere that 1lt of water can weigh as much as 1 or 2lbs... can't remember for the life of me where I saw that though!

I even weigh more after a shower - water is in your hair and possibly some absorbed through your skin. It is quite fascinating.

That's it then, it's official.... I'm giving up housework !!! Love this poem - (it's on my mum's mantlepiece, if you can see it through the dust that is_ - at 80 she's out and about with far more of a social life than I have !! Take heed everyone.........

Dust if you must.
But wouldn’t it be better,
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed?
Ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must.
But there is not much time
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb!
Music to hear, and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must.
But the world’s out there
With the sun in your eyes,
the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come round again.

Dust if you must.
But bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go, and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.

Great poem, Suchard 007! I once heard a quote along the lines of 'The thing with housework is it's so repetitive. You wash the dishes, vacuum around the furniture and six months later you have to do it all again'. This is not the verbatim quote, can't remember that one, but I love it.

Hi,
I know that some scales/Body meassurer have a handle, which you have to hold while meassuring fat and Water... (might weigh a little over 1 lb). Could that be the reason. Well just a thought. :?: Image
Otherwise you must buy yourself new scales... What you tell is like having a bucket of Water in your face.
Greatings Mette

What a great excuse to stop cleaning!!!

Seriously though, if you had a coffee and 3 glasses of water, there go your 2 pounds. That's why we always weigh first thing in the morning after hitting the loo!!!
