Week 2 - no weight loss :(
22 May 2013, 07:51
Hi All,

New to the forum and hoping to get some advice from you lovely people.

I started this WOE two weeks ago and lost 4 lbs the first week. I have now weighed in for the second time and have stayed the exact same. I am very disappointed.

I have been tracking what I eat on most days as I can too easily eat three chocolate bars, so at least when I am entering everything in to MyFitnessPal, I can see what's going in. I have been staying under 2000 cals (some days well under) on my non fast days.

Am I eating too little on non fast days? Some days I eat under 1300 calories? Is this what has caused me to stall?

I fast on Mondays and Wednesdays and weigh in on Wednesday morning - should I shift weigh day to Friday instead?

Any advice appreciated, I will persevere for now but want to keep on losing weight. I have a lot to lose so thought it would come off a little quicker at the beginning.

Thanks

Eating too little can certainly be a problem with getting your metabolism to work well. The highs *and* lows of calorie intake on this diet are part of what makes it work.

I'm not sure if it's a huge difference to weigh on Wednesday or Friday - so long as you are not weighing only on Thursday, when you'll be at your absolute lowest for the week. Some people weigh themselves daily, and keep a chart showing all of the ups and downs. They've discovered it's not a straight line, but a really lumpy one, but that there is progress.

A lot of people report a weight loss stall early on, but they persevere and the weight keeps coming off.

Good luck!

4Lbs first week is a terrific result, your body will be getting used to the changes and the 2nd and 3rd weeks can be a bit unpredictable, I would keep going and I would advise to check you tdee and eat this on feast days, also have you taken your measurements because although the scales don't show a weight loss your body shape may be changing.

Keep going and use this forum for motivation and remember you will have more weeks when you don't loose but think positive you never gained

Thanks for the advice and support guys!
I know I just need to hang in there but I'm going to weigh myself on Friday morning anyway.

Olly, My wife and I are having the same problem - I lost 4lb on 1st week, then nothing for 2 weeks. Can I ask - did you start loosing weight again? Or is it now 3 weeks later and you are still stuck?

I have just weighed :( week 2 put on 1 lb. I did nothing different from week 1 which I lost 4lb. Very dissapointed. I will keep going and try to read weight loss stories for inspiration, but there does seem to be a lot of non losers on this eating plan. I have 3 stones to lose.

Please see simcoelev's post here! 5:2 is working for thousands on this forum alone (and we have the proof!) but you need to give it time and follow it properly. A 4lb loss in the first week is mostly water and the long-run underlying rate of loss is usually around 1lb per week. I have now reached my target and weigh several times a week - you can see from my Progress Chart that my weight jumps around. Although this diet is called 'fast' it's not fast, it's steady and sustainable! Good luck!

Hi Olly, I lost 4 pounds the 1st week, and then gained the second! Then the third I lost it all and 3 more.. so bear with it! I lost a lot of weight a few years ago and found my tracker was often 2 steps forward one back.

Personally I think you shouldn't limit your calories so low on non-fast days. Although I do exercise quite a lot, I'm eating 2000+ on non-fast days and losing better than I have on any other diet. Also know it's hard, but try and eat more calories your body will thank you for. This diet is brilliant for blood sugar, but if you are eating a lot of sugary cals it will limit the positive effects

Good luck on week3! It doesn't matter when you weigh as long as it is the same time each week. Personally I weigh on Mondays before my fast day as I feel this is the most 'honest' version of my weight. (I tend to fast Monday and Thursday.

I do follow it properly. I did not follow this plan for a quick fix and realise that it is a very slow weight loss. I am carrying on with it and will give it plenty of time. Thanks for the link. Will go and have a read up.

Don't lose heart sammypants, stick with it, maybe concentrate on the health benefits initially and the weight loss will hopefully follow. It is hard when the weight isn't coming off but this woe is so much more sustainable than diet club diets that it's worth investing some time in it. Chin up ;)
