Disappointed. Plateau?
24 May 2013, 13:20
I put on a pound today after staying the same on my last two weigh ins. I'm so disappointed. I'm a pound heavier than I was 3 weeks ago despite doing all my normal fast days (some liquid only). I haven't changed my eating habits on my other days, the odd blow-out sure, but mostly around my approximate TDEE (I think).
I think I need to shake things up a bit but not sure what to do...

This all makes me wonder how many people actually do lose weight, if they do what the book says, and eat anything they want on non-fast days.

i think a plateau is quite normal, i joined around the same time as you and have had a bit of a stall for the last few weeks (admittedly i had a holiday too) but having read others this is quite normal - it gives your body and skin chance to catch up

some recommend having a bit of a blow out to help kickstart the weightloss again - hopefully more experienced peeps wil answer but dint give up, think of all the other benefits that you are getting too

I'm sure there are people that do because while they do eat anything they want they eat reasonably. Then there's people like me, where my brain will interpret eat anything I want as eating way too much every feed day. I know that's why I've sat at the same weight for the last couple weeks. Unfortunately I'm one that I think needs to keep myself accountable by tracking even on feed days.

Have not lost weight, am between 148.5- 150 lbs. Perhaps too sedentary ( finishing a book)- anxiety about a deadline) or too many calories. Have not posted in a while. How to get back on track.
Peace and love,

Hi everyone,

I started very slowly, almost gave up, lost some weight, was ecstatic, stalled, almost gave up and off it went again. It is very easy for me to say, 'don't give up' but that is the reality of it. Keep going, even when you feel like jacking the whole lot in, it will start again, honest. I have lost 2 st and was only trying to lose 1.5 st so, like I say, DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

I'm not pointing the finger at anyone, this is just a general observation, but I'm wondering how many people following 5:2 are interpreting it to mean that 5:2 allows them to eat whatever they want, as much as they want, whenever they want, so long as it isn't on a fast day.

Weight loss is always going to come down to calories taken in versus calories expended. 5:2 is just a means of getting there.

I'm hungry at the moment. It's not a fast day. Am I eating? No. Because I've learned over the past week that hunger isn't something to be afraid of, and that I really can't eat on normal days the way I have done in the past and expect to lose weight. When it's dinner time, I'll have a margarita and tacos, and I;ll probably have a small bowl of ice cream for dessert without worrying about the calories.

Thanks guys :-)
I think I need to clarify what I meant. I've not changed my eating habits over the last three weeks since my weight has stalled. Eating in this way since January has resulted in a 1lb/week weight loss for me so I was wondering why I've stalled a bit.
I'm going to track my calorie intake on feed days again for the next week or so to see what I might improve on.
I agree that this WOE may sound like you can have whatever you like on a feed day. That's only partly true. You can have what you like within reason and that's exactly what I'm doing (maybe my "within reason" gauge is malfunctioning lately)!

I'm happy to share my tacos. Anyone touches my margarita and there's going to be big trouble. (Oh dear, I do hope that didn't sound like a euphemism for something.)

But do you 'feel' smaller, and are your clothes looser? The scales say I didn't lose any weight for 3 weeks, but my body and my clothes told me otherwise. Maybe at the time you weigh yourself, you have water retention. I know everyone says not to weigh very often, but I do everyday. It's up and down, and I only count the down, because I figure that when it's up, I'm retaining. It doesn't motivate me, if I count the gains, so I ignore them, knowing if I just hang in there, and keep doing what I'm doing, the next day it will probably be down again. And it is! I've only lost 13 pounds, but I can fit into some clothes I haven't been able to wear in years. Don't give up!

Good point Cindy. I feel about the same as I have done for the last few weeks but I'm pretty bloated and retaining water at the moment so I'm pretty sure that's part of it. The most important thing is I'm at least a dress size smaller than I was in January, I look better and I'm just going to keep on keeping on until I get there :-)

I have to admit I have another reason why I'm fed up, it's because I go on holiday in 12 weeks and I really wanted to have lost a total of 2 stone by then. If I get back to losing 1lb a week as of now until I go away I might just do it!

So, if a guy asks if he can share your Margarita . . . nah, I'm not going to finish that sentence.

My alcohol consumption has dropped so much over the past week that I'm now halfway through what is admittedly a fairly generous Margarita, and I'm quite tipsy. Thanks to 5:2 I have become the woman my boyfriend has always wanted: a cheap drunk.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Jenny, but perhaps a little levity doesn't go amiss? That having been said, and I'm all in favor of tough love, maybe the most you can ask is to give 5:2 your very best shot, and then enjoy your vacation knowing that you've achieved what you've achieved and you'll carry on with your best efforts when you get back. I believe you can do it; you need to believe it, too.

The Boyfriend is going into the kitchen to make dinner(took me ages to get him trained, but I got there in the end), so I shall be off for now and will wish everyone a pleasant evening.
