After 13 weeks on 5:2 I've lost 10lbs which puts me at target and a weight I haven't seen in at least 12 years I am delighted but I was sort of hoping a younger body might reappear. Of course what I have is a slimmer version of my 57 year old bod which is definitely a lot squidgier than it was 15 years ago. So the question is do I lose more weight or accept the inevitable? I have joined the gym after several years of indolence so maybe there is hope yet. I shall definitely continue fasting. My mum is now 89 and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in her 60's - she also had her first thrombosis then and has take warfarin since. Dad has dementia - a truly horrible disease so I have lots of reasons for wanting to improve my chances of good health. I'm off on holiday next Friday and I have no intention of fasting for 2 weeks so I'll take a view about my weight when I get back. Maintenance is the hard bit of course but this forum has been wonderful so far and I shall keep logging in.

Congratulations Jed! With your family history, I'd say continue at least a 24 hour fast once or twice a week ending with normal meal AND hitting the gym to firm up those squidgier bits. We don't have positive proof of the benefits of fasting but why take any chances? Enjoy your holiday and your slimmer self.
That's great news and good work Jed. Well done on getting there
Exercise has lots of benefits as well as toning the bod - not sure about rejuvenating and time travel, but, hey, we can hope. I willbe hedging my bets if I ever get to that magic figure and keep at least some fasting in there. I've got CHD, cancer, dementia and all manner of nastied on both sides. I need all the help I can get and fasting is right up there.
Enjoy your holiday

Thanks for your kind words Betsysgr8 and Janeg. I am really chuffed about my weight loss and just wish I had discovered this diet years ago. I did calculate that I have probably lost and put back on at least 20 stone over the years which is very scary! When I was younger I felt pretty invincible as far as my health went but watching my parents ageing has been a bit of a wake up call. Let's hope that our hopes for the medical benefits of this diet are proven. You are right about exercise of course Janeg, just wish I enjoyed it a bit more.
Congratulations! I fear after child rearing my thinner self will be very wobbly! Interestly losing weight is beginning to make me feel that exercise may become a part of my life, something that never occurred to me so overweight! Guess it's being lighter so less effort required! Good luck with your quest and if you find a saggy cure please pass it on! :0)
Well done Jed, my advice would be to work on building muscle at the gym which helps with body definition. I'm not that much younger than you and I have noticed a big change in my shape since starting my weights classes.
Nevertheless I'm sure your looking great anyway with your slimmer bod.

Congratulations Jed! I am sure that just losing the extra weight is good for us but I too am hoping there will be other positive things happening. Regarding exercise, I always enjoyed walking but nothing else I tried until I discovered Pilates, and later yoga which I have now been doing for three years (I'm 54) and I love it. (Both are great for toning too!) You need to find something that you genuinely enjoy because life should be enjoyed, and I am sure there's a form of exercise out there that's just right for you!
