Delighted or Disappointed?

Diet coke? Sure! More alcohol for us! :-)
TML13 - I'm sure I'm not the only person, out of more than 8,000 members (plus guests) on this forum, who is thinking that, if fasting alone did the trick, as regards weight loss, why would you need to introduce 2 days a week of Dukan Attack?

Some new members must surely be asking themselves the same thing.

I'm sure you're pleased you've lost the weight, but maybe the forum is less about the essence of the book (fasting), and more about congratulating each other, regardless of the method used to reduce weight.

The message you're giving is: "Great. I've lost loads of weight, but the fasting alone didn't work, so I added something else in to the mix."

Perhaps there should be a section for those who are losing weight by other methods, as well as fasting.
Brilliant , well done, may I ask what's 3.2.2.

Great achievement.
Tomtank, I understand that you are doing 5:2 and low carb? Are you not doing 5:2 then?
The glorious thing about 5:2 is the fact that it gives us the freedom to adapt a way of eating instead of a diet adapting us. I found the best way to do it in order to work for me, that is pretty much what everybody else on this forums have done.

Madeyemoodysmum (love your screen name), it's what I named my version of 5:2. I fast for 2 days, eat normally (sensibly, most of the times) for 3 days and for 2 days I do the Dukan attack. I don't restrict calories or count them on any of the 5 days.
TML .. Tequila gold and no training wheels for me! lol
Coming up girls, LOL! :like:
you sound so excited :) congratulations

& miine's a glass of red ;) x
TML13 - Yes. I am doing 5:2 for the alleged health benefits, and am on a low-carb eating plan.

The difference is that I am under no illusion that fasting always works for everybody.

I know that as soon as I up my carbs, my weight will soar. Fasting for 2 or 3 days a week would not stop that happening.

If I were to announce on the forum that I had lost weight, by mixing Atkins with 5:2, I doubt that anyone would be interested.

I wouldn't feel comfortable about telling everyone about my weight loss on here, if I had introduced another diet altogether.

For some reason, whenever low-carb eating is mentioned, it seems to provoke controversy.

I know that fasting has worked for several people, but, generally, it is a very slow way to lose weight, and some people with very high BMIs should be looking to reduce their weight at a faster rate, and definitely cut out high-carb foods.

It's not all about what we look like to other people, but how healthy we are in general.

Indeed I am, thanks! Your red is on its way!
Tomtank, to be honest with you I don't see neither your point, nor the reason why you felt like writing all this under this particular thread.
Perhaps someone else will see it and reply to you.
And I hope that if I did something wrong one of the moderators will soon correct me.
Oh that's so encouraging as a thyroid sufferer too.
Mines a Hendricks gin ( Scottish), with tonic.
It won't be too long before these pants are too big for you as you've proven you've got the staying power.
Thanks for being an inspiration and hearty congratulations. X
TML13 - of course you didn't do anything wrong! My point is that it must be confusing for new members to see that you kick-started your weight loss with a totally unconnected way of dieting.

I don't think that people would be reaching so many plateaux, or regaining weight, if it all worked as well as the book said it would.

You going on your Dukan Attack, and me having to stick to low-carb, must say something!
Thanks so much, Bellalou!
I think I'm happier for the fact that I feel I've beaten my thyroid, than for the weight loss itself. It's like I can do anything now! :-)

Is it my idea, or we don't have any vodka drinkers around here?
Sorry TML13 - meant to say well done about your thyroid. However you achieved it, that is really encouraging for anyone who has a problem with theirs.
Yes, Tomtank, it says something.
It says that even if you have health problems which slow down weight loss (I do, two of them) and if you take medication that slows down weight loss (I do, lots of them) and if you can't exercise because of health problems (I can't) you can still lose weight on 5:2, albeit with very slow pace.
But, if you wish to lose weight faster because you are impatient (I am) you can still stir things up and lose weight faster.

So far, I can count 5 ways of losing weight faster with variations 5:2:
1. Do 4:3
2. Count calories
3. Exercise more
4. Do water fasts
5. Do what I did

Lastly, I haven't read this book you're referring to and I don't plan to. I found this forum and I'm happy with the suggestions here. So, in my book and according to the wonderful people of this forum, 5:2 does work for everybody as long as they are patient to discover which version of it suits them better.

Can we please move on now???
