Well, for four months I did believe my scales. Four months ago I started the 5:2 diet, it fitted in with my lifestyle easily and soon I was able to tighten the belt on my jeans. Without a belt they slipped down! I lost half a stone. Ideally after a year I hope to have lost another 1-1/2 stones. Two weeks ago, my mum-in-law gave us her unwanted scales. They were newer than ours and unfortunately more accurate. And although I have lost weight, I am not the weight I thought I was so my target is further away - arhhhhhhh!

I don't think it's the ADF that people are advising against but the low number of calories on the feed days.
Yesterday I had 1700 cals didn't count them at the time and it felt like I had loads! Was very happy to see I hadn't gone over! Back to my fast day today!
I don't have my diary with me but unless my memory fails me I lost about the same weight in my first couple of weeks of 5:2.
If I were you, I would believe my scales! It is a great energy boost!
BUT, ADF and restricting calories doesn't sound like a good idea to do long term. You will be eating very few calories and you might find that you will stop losing (what we call "starvation mode").

Hi I have loads to lose also and do 4:3 simply because of the loss needed and I'm finding it so easy you do feel elated can't help but do.
Just done 2weeks (3meals out each week) so was really careful of what I ate, Caroline said total calories per week counted so put in extra 24hr fast but eating what I wanted in evening, I prob lost too much this week but it just happened truthfully!!
Agree totally with BBT about virtual gastric band ( had considered it) couldn't afford it, then found fast diet cost £5 that's the way I feel Amazing M/obese + full + satisfied + Very Happy Sue

My TDEE started at 2700kcals a day, yet I am still losing about 1.5lbs a week. It has already dropped to 2,400kcals. Withs a starting BMI of 46 its going to take me till Xmas 2014 to get to my goal weight, but with this way of eating I WILL get there. I haven't given up yet and its 4 months I've been doing this, when I would usually give up at 3 months.
I do a 2:1, two day feeding and one day fasting and repeat it. It works for me, except I don't fast on Fridays as its a shopping day. It roughly works out at 5 fast days every 2 weeks. My portion size has dropped naturally to about half what i was eating, I now stop eating when satisfied instead of bursting full and can push a plate away saying no more. My 'grazing' has near enough stopped, no more opening the fridge door because I'm bored and eating everything, in fact there is a slice of 'tart citron' in the fridge that's a left over and I haven't even nibbled the crust .
All of this has happened naturally and easily. There was no starving myself to 'retrain' my body, there was no feelings of guilt when I had a week of celebrations for my 50th birthday, It will come naturally, don't deprive yourself too much as that could slide you into 'starvation mode' and put you off sticking to this diet. It is better to go a bit slower and stay on a diet, than have magnificent results in the first few weeks and then feel deprived and give up. A week here and there of stricter eating can jolt your body out of a plateau but there is no need for it every week.
