Losing weight too quickly?
25 Jun 2013, 13:16
Hi all,

It's my first post here but I've been on the diet for 6 1/2 weeks now. I know this is probably a really annoying post for those who are struggling to lose weight, but I have the opposite problem. Not really a problem, but I'm just a bit concerned.

I've lost 5kg (11 lbs) in 6.5 weeks of the 5:2 diet, but I'm 5'4", and I started out at 63kg, in the healthy range. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced similar weight loss while in the healthy range? I'm still not at my target of 55kg, but I just want to make sure I'm not losing weight TOO quickly (I see the average weight loss is 1 lb a week). Especially as I've been fasting on 600-700 calories and definitely indulging on normal days.

But on the other hand, I am surprised and delighted  since I've struggled to get my weight down for about 5 years. 55kg doesn't seem like such an impossible dream anymore!

I'm a bit jealous lol but I can see your reason for having a bit of concern. If you feel that changes you have made to your diet don't really justify the significant and quick weight loss, perhaps you should see a doctor, especially get your thyroid checked. A hyperactive thyroid could explain the quick and easy loss you've had.

Oh! And welcome to the forum! :)

Thanks very much! :) I think it'll be good to talk to others who understand, rather than having people I know saying "that sounds awful!" when I tell them about the diet. I've been quite enjoying it actually, and the first "diet" I've kept going for more than a week.

I do have coeliac disease (gf for 2 years so should be fully healed) and I had my thyroid checked last year but it was fine. The weight loss only started when I started the diet. Perhaps it's just an indicator that I do have a quick metabolism & was just eating WAAAY too much to start with? :P

I suppose I just need to wait and see what happens when I get to my target weight. GPs tend to be stupendously useless if you don't have an "obvious" problem though...
