What my weight loss looks like
05 Jul 2013, 09:55
I was packing to go away last night and was surprised when I hopped on the scales midway through packing with my bag on my back to see my pre-5:2 weight. It really made me see what I'd achieved.

On my back I had:

1 sleeping bag
1 camping pillow
1 sleeping bag liner
Lots of underwear for 2 weeks away
thermal top
various thermal leggings
trousers
waterproof trousers
2 tshirts
2 fleeces
pyjamas
hat, gloves and scarf
and of course, a rucksack.

Quite incredible really!!
Nice!

One very happy side-effect for me was that I fit my sleeping bag again, I'd been rather squashed to the point of having to buy an XL one...but back in my nice Vango bag last week.

Have a good time! :-)
I got quite giddy when I realised I had lost the equivalent of two bags of cat litter! The cheap, supermarket type that comes in 10 litre bags. Bearing in mind that I have to actually drag the new bag across the floor until I get fairly well down it, the thought that I was actually carrying the weight of two of them around all the time is a little scary!
Very impressive! I think when you struggle to pick it up you realise just how heavy it is... numbers on a scale can be quite meaningless!
Very inspirational. Have a great holiday.
Brilliant post, Jolie! Congratulations, that's a lot of weight that you're no longer carrying around, all the time!
Congrats to the above! I see the weight loss clearly when I look at me now compared with last year's summer photos. On a low calories day today - off to have one of Emily Hanson's 65 calorie smoothies.
Very encouraging!
Thermal tops, hat and gloves... you must be going for a summer holiday to Scotland!!! ;-)

do sleeping bags have SIZES???

(Can you tell that I hate camping?)
Wow! Well done Jolie - that is really inspirational :)
Interesting the variety of personal measurement systems.

I've been using 1/2 liter bottled water (at 1.1 pounds each) as a visual and tangible measure of progress.

It is an entirely different experience to actually lift the equivalent weight loss than it is to just hear a number.

And, as a selling point for the effectiveness of 5:2 WOE, there's nothing quite like placing most of a case of water into someone's lap for even a few seconds.

John
After reading these comments I wanted to see and feel the weight that I've lost.

My scales are next to the airing cupboard so I kept putting sheets, duvet covers, towels etc. into a washing basket and standing on the scales with it until I reached my starting weight. It was so heavy I could hardly lift it and it actually hurt my back. It doesn't seem possible that I was carrying that lot around for years.

No wonder I was always so tired and lacking energy!
