Unsure and a bit dispondent
09 Sep 2013, 20:19
I've been fasting for about 6 weeks, and have only lost 3lb, which was in the first week. I'm starting to despair that this is not the life for me!

Whilst I probably don't know have a massive amount of weight to lose and I have found the fasting days 'easy', i kind of hoped that the weight i did have to lose would come of quicker.

I don't think I eat excessively on my non fasting days and i don't pick between meals....Should i just calorie count all the time? I really want this to work as I've had enough of conventional dieting... And think that in the long term this is easier to do.

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated

Oh dear Germo, please don't despair, but we're going to need to know your vital statistics, dieting history, eating habits (fast & feast day) and health issues (or not) to be able to give you any meaningful advice.

I amuse myself, as I couldn't really give much advice, but I know that the people that can need to know that sort of stuff

Well, i don't have any health problems and BP and cholesterol are all good...Ive been serial dieter for 20 odd years and have successfully managed to loose between 2 stone each time....but slowly the weight has crept back on and now I'm here weighing 11 stone+, Ive also had hypnotherapy regarding my weight, which didnt really help me loose weight but has helped stop me getting quite so upset about it!

I've got to the stage where I dont want to 'diet' anynore....as my problem is keeping the weight off, not the actual dieting! I guess I want to eat 'normally' and be happy with my appearance at the same time.

I haven't found the fasting difficult at all, in fact, I actually enjoy my fasting days?

AnnieD is right Germo- we need to know what you are eating on your feast and fast days. Give us a good breakdown and someone will no doubt have some ideas on how to tweak it. Keeping the weight off will be about keeping your intake at a certain level. If you don't want to call it 'dieting' call it being 'sensible' or something else but to the best of my knowledge that is the way forward. But how about starting with what you are eating and we can all take it from there?

Have you looked in the FAQ up in the banner at the top of the page? Caroline has answered a lot of questions about slow losses and how this WOE works. 3lb in 6wks actually works out at the group average of half a pound a week. The weight often comes off in chunks with spells of maintaining in between. Its seldom a steady drop. I'm sure some of the nerds will be along to advise soon.

Hi:

Many people underestimate the number of calories they eat - studies show usually by about 50%. You may need to count calories for a short time to see if that is your issue. This might help: 5-2-diet-chat-f6/topic6600.html

Good Luck!

Sorry to hear you're disappointed. Good advice offered so far.
Also, have you measured everywhere? Sometimes when the scales don't show much, the tape measure or clothing can be much kinder.

You say you don't have a lot to lose. Those those of us who start out in the healthy weight range usually average about a 200g per week loss. It took me almost 4 months to lose my goal of 4 kilos; heavier people are getting average losses of 500g per week. (I don't speak imperial weight so don't know how much a stone is!)

Yes - there are threads on 'slow losers' and 'if you haven't lost any weight' - all worth a look, as there are a lot of us, in healthy BMI range with not a lot to lose. 6 weeks isn't a long time in the scale of things, and my betting is you will, probably start to lose weight soon if you keep things up. But all the advice about checking what you're doing is right, so take stock and make any adjustments you need to, and it might just nudge things along.

Hi Germo and Welcome you've said you are a starting weight of around
11 stone so you should be seeing results but yes it sometimes comes off in chunks. So please persevere, have you filled in the tracker as this then gives you a ''true '' amount of calories to work to (your TDEE
You can keep this private but as you've stated your weight well it should keep the motivation up, all of us knowing.
First check your fast day calories and try to get as close to your 500 as possible. Then take a look at feed day calories.
If you are exercising this sometimes stalls your weight but only temporarily it will catch-up that's where the waiting game comes in.
Try not to get to down and hang on in there.
Good Luck :clover: Sue. :clover:
