Wardrobe victory (I think...)
30 Dec 2013, 11:20
So I have a fairly professional job. Until five years ago it was a mix of being in an office (suit), working with clients sometimes (suit) and quite a lot of time 'on site' (layers/warm/slightly scruffy).

FFWD a couple of years, working in a less dressy location (smart casual), with clients (smart), site (as above), then a lot of working at home (very scruffy) and outgrowing my wardrobe.

Job likely to change over next few months (could be back to suits)...

Have just spent a couple of hours going through some of my clothing. Some highs and lows;

HIGHS - can again get into most of my old clothes. Can get into a pair of trousers I bought from eb*y a couple of years ago and never been able to wear! Machine-washable stuff whirring away in kitchen. Lots of stuff to go to charity shops.

LOWS - have a load of jackets/skirts/trousers which are Dry Clean Only, going to cost a small fortune! Two or three dresses I bought last year for posh social events (two worn once, one never worn - it arrived a day before a wedding so I'd already bought a standby) now too big.

Am also between jean sizes - I can take my 12's off without undoing but can't quite fit my 10's, and I hate wearing belts.

Can anyone suggest a seamstress in Bedfordshire (UK) area? I'd really like to get the dresses altered (I like them, and I'm not a dress person) rather than putting them on eb*y. I *can* sew, but not well enough for these I think.

Well done MM! Fab feeling to get back into previously tight or totally unwearable stuff,
I have a friend who lives fairly near bedfordshire so will ask her does she have any suggestions re dressmaker x
  Well done on the wardrobe sorting and I'm sure there will be s seamstress in your area you could look in your local papers or put a card request in a shop
window/noticeboard as for the dry cleaning surely that would be cheaper than buying new

yes I would say that's a victory indeed
and good luck with the job
That's fabulous! Im sure you will enjoy strutting around in your new old clothes. What a great start to the new year, and a new job. :victory: :like:
Sorry MM i asked my friend and she doesnt know of any..i guess they are a dying breed?
Some dry cleaners also offer alteration services... X

Ps i know you said no ebay..but you might get a really good price for really nice dresses..i got £ 160 for my Mother of the Bride dress...cost me £300,was quite happy with swift sale i made..good idea to advertise as Mother of Bride even if it wasnt as people are often searching under that title for suitable items x
Ask in any haberdashery shops you have. They will either be able to do the work themselves or they will have board with locals to advertise on. Also ask at the local post office, the small ones that are owner run, as they often have advertising boards up or know locals.
Many thanks for the tips on finding a seamstress. I suspect they are a dying breed. There used to be a couple of 'proper' tailors in the town, but they're long gone :frown:
@madmittens. A friend has come up with an address and number for an alteration shop in bedford for you
Just thought, maybe i sh'd just PM it to you rather thna put a number on display here x
