Where am I going wrong?
09 Dec 2013, 19:56
It all started so well - 7lb down in 2 weeks, then I've carried on eating and fasting the same but have gone up by 3lb and don't seem to be going down again - rally disappointed

Hi and welcome :like:

You need to give it a few weeks for the body to register its new eating. In this time weight can come off quite easily and fluctuate by an odd pound or so going back on.

This is all perfectly normal. Some of us loose alot in the first two weeks. This WoE averages an approx 1lb a week so the body takes a bit to catch up when its looses alot quickly !

Keep going with all your hard work, take measurements and pictures before you loose too much

Good luck, you are doing nothing wrong :like:

Sorry to hear that you are disappointed, however you are doing just fine, really! Typically the first losses are alot of retained water and will give you an initial rapid weight loss, then your body adjusts. You are still down 4 lbs in 2 weeks and since the forum average is just under 1 lb a week you are ahead of the game. Keep going and you will see the scales start to slide down again.

Have you measured? Are your clothes looser? These will be the real indicator of success. Good luck and keep on keeping on. :)

 Hi and Welcome you don't say if you measured this is necessary because sometimes you will lose
inches but not lbsThis is my only regret I only took 2 and wish I'd done all.
Don't give up try on something that didn't fit before 5:2 and basically give this WOL/WOE time to weave its magic because there are loads of members who are slow losers and you could be in the same group.
so relax be patient+ enjoy :clover: Sue

Welcome Madcatlady! I know how you feel as something similar happened to me but overall the trend was down. Have a look at my progress tracker and you'll see what I mean.

Lots of reasons why your weight fluctuates. There is lots of info on this forum about this topic as it happens to many of us. Don't despair and don't change anything just yet. Good luck!

I had similar results when I first started with the diet. I started out strong and then leveled off. I was eventually able to change that and get better results. I am not sure it was just a function of more time with the lifestyle, or had more to do with the changes I implemented. In any event, here is what I changed:

1. At first I was not eating anything until lunch. Now I am eating 250 calories in the morning and saving 350 for dinner. I find this new way a bit more difficult, but I feel the longer stretches of fasting are more effective and I have gotten used to it.

2. I was fasting on Mondays and Wednesdays or Mondays and Thursdays for the most part. While I still do this, I have found the best way to lose weight in a week and keep it off, is to fast two days in a row. I don't recommend doing it every week, but for me it is a good jump starter for weight loss.

I have been with this diet since August and I have lost 12 of the 15 pounds I was looking to lose. I have a few more pounds to go but beyond that, I just love this life style and I could easily envision maintaining it for the rest of my life. Besides the weight loss, I feel healthier in general and more in control of my appetite rather than the other way around. By Sunday, I usually look very forward to fasting.

Anyway, keep it up and good luck!

Hi madcat..love your name by the way!
Glad youve taken on board what our wise longtimers have told you!
This IF 5:2 thing is weird in many ways ( but in good ways!)
I didnt lose for five weeks then in the following ten weeks i lost 25 pound
Stick with it and see what happens and never forget the health benefits from giving your body the opportunity for some repairing twice a week! X

We have lots of cats and some of my friends call me a mad cat lady so I thought why not use it!! I will stick with this for sure - not least because I've found that unlike when I was doing other plans, which constantly meant planning food, I rarely think about food now and have hardly any cravings, which have always been my undoing in the past. Maybe my body is just getting used to the shock!

Hi and welcome:

Most people overestimate how much weight they can lose in a given timeframe. An average woman will lose less that 4 pounds a week if they eat nothing at all - total fast. So if you eat anything, you will lose less.

Here are how the numbers work: 5-2-diet-chat-f6/topic6600.html

And here is what you might expect to experience going forward: post71147.html#p71147

Good Luck!
