Today is my first fast of the Christmas 2016 challenge. Last week I wasn't in the right frame of mind and ended up putting on weight (which then led me to throwing in the towel and eat all chocolate I could find in one sitting).

Herbal tea and water during the day, a stock cube for 'lunch', and dinner will be brown rice with quinoa, roasted pumpkin and spinach leaves. Perhaps a side dish of beans. I don't count calories but I think I'll be able to keep it under 500 tonight.

Anyone joining me today?
Good morning !

First fast of the week, hoping it will go well. Since I came back, everything has been pretty crazy (new car with a window smashed, laptop crashed for good) which made my fasts difficult. Today, I am hoping for a smooth ride.

For tonight I I may make a broccoli soup with a touch of gorgonzola. I have a potimarron (a small red-ish pumpkin) and I want to make a soup with it but I don't really know how to use it yet. Some recipes advise to roast it in the oven and some don't. We'll see later this week

Good luck everyone ! :clover:
Good morning you great fasters!

@wmr309 I can so relate to that. I also binged on chocolate yesterday - and ended up going for a dark walk - in the rain - loved it though!!

I love the sound of your soup @Manderley especially the gorgonzola part (mmmm) I hope you two have successful fasts.

As for me, I'm trying to get back on track. I've put on a few pounds since my month in Canada and struggling to get into the right frame of mind. Today I plan to do 800 cals and just 50g carbs - that's the plan - now lets see if it work out!!

Good luck everyone

Bean
@nursebean I rather have stilton but we can't find some here and it seems that gorgonzola is the next best thing. It will be my first time with these cheese
Good to know that the food is that good in Canada as I may go to live there in a while (long story)
What?!! @Manderley? You're going to move to Canada?!! Oh I'm so jealous! Which part are you going to? I'd love to move near my sister in Montreal but I guess I wouldn't be able to. I don't work and I have no money - apart from that I'd be great over there!!

Ooh how exciting for you!!

Bean
@nursebean It's not for today, not as long as my mother is still alive as I can't leave her but it will happen. I met a Canadian years ago, we became friends until we weren't anymore  Long distance relationships can be great but only for a while so he's moving here just before Christmas an, then we will get married in March and then we will move in Canada when the time will come. He's from next to Vancouver.

So if your sister lives near Montréal you must speak a bit of Canadian French ? It's always possible, you could find some work there and stay a few weeks with your sister maybe ?
Oh wow @Manderley, that means we will be neighbors; Seattle isn't far from Vancouver!

I'm just about ready for bed, late here time change messing with me as usual. I'm in for tomorrow... "See" you then!
i am an all or nothing kind of gal, of course I had to fall for a handsome Canadian and go "all the way" with him (I mean geting married and go far far away from everything I know)

So you also had some time change ? Ours were last weekend and it's so bad this year especially as most of my friends are in North America so if I usually talk to some around 3:00pm, suddenly it's around 2:00pm which mess up the schedule.

So I had one black coffee and am about to have a black tea. I don't get why we have so much English tea (Twinnings, Tetley, even Clipper but we don't have my favorite which is PG Tips :dazed:
I'm in today, I've moved my fast from Tuesday as I'm going out to dinner tomorrow night.
@Manderley I grew potimarron squashes this year and will post the recipe I use for soup, later when I have a bit more time. I don't roast them first but I do find them very difficult to peel, so if anyone has any tips for peeling squash that would be great
@SianS I know that some people eat the potimarron skin or roast quarters of it and then spoon the flesh. There is also another way to make the skin easier to peel, put the potimarron in boiled water for 3 to 4 minutes before peeling it.
The soup is ready and it looks and tastes fantastic. I never used gorgonzola before so I didn't put too much of it but it's perfect this way.

And if the soup is not enough, there is a Greek yogurt waiting for me, it's a perfect filling snack
I'm in today, it's great to see more than one or two posts for a day! Had my coffee, on to green tea... Happy fasting, all!

@Sassy1and anyone else who cares, Ziggy's blood tests came back and are actually better than 2 years ago, his renal values are slightly improved. He hasn't had another seizure (if that's what it really was) and I'm trying to keep it calm around him. I don't believe in torturing him with treatments, when it's time he'll go to the rainbow bridge peacefully. But I'm going to appreciate every moment spent with my "Kitten of Wisdom." (My avatar is his pic.)
Dear @ferretgal

So pleased to hear about Ziggy's results! I know you will treasure every day with him.

Lovely to see him via your avatar too - just as you can see my Lizzie and Darcy. They went beserk last night when we got back from 10 days away, and now are waiting, sort of patiently, for their morning walk (they don't get walked when I am away, son at home can't be bothered/ doesn't get up early enough before he had to leave for work).

Hope you fast goes well! :clover:
