Fasting with a cold?
10 Sep 2013, 11:50
am off from work today with a rubbish cold (I think lots of people are this time of year).

I wasn't sure whether to fast or not - but I came up with the idea of adding stock to my noodle microwave meal (500 cals) to make it into a soup I can eat all day. Ok, so it will push me a bit over probably but am not that strict!

Anyone else got any fasting and having a cold tips? (I tend to eat loads of food when am poorly as a comfort)

I tend to listen to my body when I'm poorly - if it's asking for food (not just comfort food!) then I feed it, if I've got no appetite then I may as well do a fast. I don't think it would do much harm to fast while you have a cold even if you're hungry but it might delay your recovery. Do what feels right :)

Don't worry about going a bit over your 500 cals, it won't ruin things. I fasted on 650-700 over Christmas and still lost a little weight. Sometimes I have more like 550 and it's no problem. It's not some magical number which must be strictly adhered to.

Hi Banthafish. I normally eat a lot when I have a cold but I've had a few this winter and I've managed to fast while I felt off. Up to you, no need to push yourself if you don't feel up to fasting.
