I'm coming home....
30 Dec 2014, 17:16
Hello everyone

Its been a long time since I've been on this forum. I've been so busy at work then what with home life and two small children I've not been keeping in touch with whats happening on here.

Just to say, I will be back on intermittent fasting on 1st January and I am taking part in dry January. I have found it quite difficult to stick to 500 calories when I have fasted so I am hoping that staying in touch more regularly will help me. I dare not get on the scales yet as I have enjoyed myself over the Christmas period but I will assess the damage come the 1st.

Hope everyone has a great new year and I will see you on the other side on Thursday!

Best

Carms.

Hello Carms - I hope that your weigh-in is not too much of a shock for you. Do let us know as much as your comfortable with about your baseline and what your health and other goals (such as weight) might be for 2015.

:clover: for when you start back. In the past did you find that participating in the Fasting Today threads was at all helpful in keeping you on track? Meal planning?

Any questions, do speak up because there's a good chance somebody else is wondering about a similar issue.

Hi Ssure

I don't have any health issues per se. My wish for 2015 is to lose at least 1 stone (probably more once I get the sp on how much I truly weigh) as I'd like to fit my jeans better. So tired of the thunder thighs!

I don't think I truly appreciated just how much keeping in touch daily on the forum helped me with sticking to my 500 cals. I've been doing my own version of fasting for some time and without fail I went way above 500 cals. My issue also is that once I'm near to goal I lose motivation and go back to old eating habits by thinking the odd few hundred calories here and there won't matter... I also have a problem with portion control - don't know how I will conquer that but one hurdle at a time.

I did find a useful recipe on this forum that I always had every fast day. Obviously I got bored with it and decided to guess my calories and the rest is history. I hate counting calories but I think for my fast day I need to take control.

Its funny because after I sent this post I thought maybe I should start on Monday 5th Jan instead when I will probably find it easier as I'm in the office. However, I think there's no time like the present so I've committed myself to Thursday. I'm starting as I mean to carry on. I will read my books on 5:2 to try and whet my appetite again.

Welcome back. Chances are we'll be seeing quite a few others with similar stories next week.

Online support is essential for me. Without it it is too easy to drift off. Plus there is such a fine collection of people here. I always enjoy hearing what they have gotten up to!

Welcome back. I completely relate to your busy life ... it's time for you time. It's been really important for me to visit the forum daily and when I've been busied out I have missed it big time. So I'll watch out for your visits and catch you then

Hi @Motherof2 I'm right with you in regards to over doing it a bit this xmas and I'll also be back on track very early 2015. I can already feel the motivation that will carry us through 2015. Us oldies (oldies at fasting not age  ) will start the new year/new start with a bang and keep it going all year long. Enjoy the rest of 2014 and I too will see you on the other side. Happy New Year   :drink: :drink: :booze:

Oh how lovely to see you Carms @Motherof2. I think you will probably do a lot better with the support from the forum...you could do worse!!
Oh and don't worry, you're not alone. I have over-indulged quite significantly over the Christmas period (I just literally ate things when I knew I wasn't hungry...actually, I knew I was about to explode) and as a consquence, my clothese now feel tight and in the bathroom mirror I look just like Buddha  So, tomorrow is the day when the fasting magic returns. I am to do ADF again but this time cut breakfasts out as well
Anyway, I wish you all the luck Carms. With our help I'm sure you can do it. Just think what the scales will say in just a few months.
Bean :starving:

Hi Motherof2 - it's not necessary to have a health issue to have a health-related goal, IYSWIM. It might be the ability to run a sprint without being horribly winded (improvement in lung function or CV fitness), or to dance with your children for 20 minutes with them clinging on to your legs without wanting to collapse in the corner like a rag doll.

I was interested to note what you said about your motivation. I don't recall the writer offhand but I remember seeing someone argue that if it's motivation to shed X that drives you to your goal (and no other ambitions), your motivation decreases in relation to the nearer you are to your goal - which is why some people can find it tough to shed the final 5 lbs or so as the motivation has dialled down so much and portion creep can set in.

Look up some suitable recipes and maybe prepare them in advance so you don't get bored with FD options? Do you know if any particular foods seem to make you hungry later and if there are some that leave you feeling pleasantly satisfied without triggering more hunger?

:clover: for the fresh start for you.

Welcome back!

Just like last year, Bruce and I took December "off" from fasting - in no small part due to the huge family and social commitments. So we're restarting as well with our next fast on Monday.

I'm really looking forward to it! Family leaves on Friday, and we have a trip into NYC on Saturday, so we are more than ready for a detox from all of this food
