Hi everyone,
I have just joined and doing the 5:2. I have set my fasting days for Tuesday and Thursdays. I read somewhere that they don't have to be consecutive days. Is there anyone in Melbourne Australia that is doing the fasting? Would love to hear from you.

Hi Eve and welcome to our fab forum. I fast Mondays and Thursdays and have for the last 20 months. I've lost 23 KGS and I just love this Way Of Eating. I hope you have a successful fast tomorrow.
A salty drink in the afternoon helps me a lot while I'm hanging out for dinner. I drink homemade chicken broth but others drink a cup of miso soup or a stock cube or powder in hot water.
Good luck!
Xxx Julianna

Hi @eve54, welcome! I live in Melbourne and there are a number of Aussies who are members of this forum. You will find important information about 5:2 in 'How it works" and the "Fasting Library", and so many people's journeys to read that will provide you with inspiration and comfort in times of need. I'm fasting today and Thursday.
Happy Fasting!

Hi Julianna, congrats on loosing so much weight. You have inspired me already. I am thinking of having minestrone soup tomorrow for the fast day which is 200 calories per portion (what's a portion?) found recipe on this web site. Which recipes have you used for your fast days?

Welcome and good luck, Eve! I'll also be fasting on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

I have mostly used recipes from the Fast Diet book on fast days, though both are pretty easy to just make up. One is chicken and vegetable stir fry. The other is Mexican pizza--basically, salsa, mozzarella, and some vegetables on a tortilla baked in the oven to melt the cheese.

Hi eve,
When I first started I had 3 meals a day. A 1egg omelette with a bit of baby spinach and a few mushrooms (120 calories) then some home made vege soup that I freeze I sound 3oo ml portions then a 300 calorie dinner ( 100- 150 grams protein like chicken, salmon or fish fillet or small steak with stir fry veg or salad) I generally avoid all carbs like bread, potatoes and pasta on fast days and fill up on low carb veges that mostly grow above the ground. I'm not perfect though. Tonight my daughter wanted me to try just one of the nioki she had just made for the first time and it was so good I snuck about 5!! Tonight we had a thin salmon fillet and some stir fry cauliflower, pumpkin, mushrooms, asparagus, and cabbage just stir fried with spray olive oil and salt. I dont have breakfast anymore as I never was really hungry on the morning. Sometimes I have lunch, sometimes I don't. Winter it would be a soup around 100 calories, summer an egg salad tub from school canteen. Another favourit easy dinner for around 300 cakories is 2 egg omelette with mushrooms, ham, spinach and a bit of fetta or grated cheese. Nice ,quick and filling!I hope these suggestions are helpful. Best lowest cal veggies are celery, mushroom and cabbage. My hubs has lost 18 KGS and snacks on celery and cucumbers when the going gets tough.

Hi @eve54 and welcome!
There will be a get together in Melbourne in late Jan, when Sallyo from Tassie is visiting - there is a thread on this that will get resurrected closer to the time that will give details - it would be lovely to meet you! :)
There is lots of info in this forum, and I am sure you will soon find your way around. If you are having problems, just ask.

My fast day meal is not much different from a non-fast day meal (we eat very plainly) - lots of steamed low-cal veggies, small amount of more starchy veggies, and piece of fish or chicken. Sometimes I turn this into soup or stir fry. I usually have yoghurt and berries as well. And a small piece of chocolate just before bedtime as I have trouble sleeping if I feel very hungry. And although I know that a lo-cal milky drink or small piece of cheese is preferable to chocolate, chocolate works ok for me!!

Not sure if someone has already said to measure everywhere, and take photos - you will appreciate having these points of comparison later. :)
As you find your way around the forum, you will find many ideas for managing this way of eating.
Best wishes and good luck! :D :clover:
