Sunday Fast 22.03.15
21 Mar 2015, 20:34
I'm in again. The wet fish has been in action, so I'm doing another 500 cal fast. I'm back onto my secret weapon, soup. I find the only way I can manage a 500 cal fast these days and perhaps my 1000 cal maintenance fasts, is soup. Filling, low cal. Yesterday I made curried cauliflower and butternut with coconut cream for feed day. Experimental and a bit bland (not enough pumpkin) so today I'll mix it with the carrot soup I froze from last Thursday fast and hope it's a it more tasty :-) so 4 cups of soup 70+ 130 = 200 cals, add coffee with milk, protein bar, will come in under 500, room for an 8 cal hot chocolate. It's been like winter all weekend so feels like soupy days. Good luck those joining me.

@nursebean I used to do the soup for breakfast when I first started fasting, but along the way it was forgotten. I love vegie soup on so many levels: u can get your daily dose of veg in the morning, you are full for hours after a huge bowl of homemade soup, it's usually under 100 cals, you can use leftover veg, you can use cauliflower to thicken and make a 'creamy' soup, you can chose your favourite veg, you really can eat it morning, noon n night. I always add an onion to give it more flavour. In fact I've made myself so enthusiastic LOL I'm going to make various soup on my days off and freeze for variety and ease. Off to the beach now with the boys (there's a pale sun shining through) then home for..soup!

Well @nursebean I never use recipes, just make it up. To keep it low cal I use water, an onion (no need for stock as there is plenty of flavour in vegies and the onion), a fave is butternut and cauliflower. I just cook those 3 ingredients (add up cals), boil till cooked. Take some of water out to one side in case it's too watery....stick blend the rest, adding some of the extra 'stock' you have set aside till it's the right consistency, salt and pepper to taste. Divide into portions, work out cals per serve, freeze leftovers for next fast day. Sometimes I just throw everything left over in fridge with water, onion, blend. Add 1/4 tin coconut cream for a richer soup = extra 200 ish cals per pot. Add fresh herbs or frozen spinach for a greener soup. Easy, delicious, use veg u like. I find cauliflower gives a very creamy effect and butternut a thick soup with sweet flavour.

Well rails came off the track! I was so hungry, tummy rumbling, I was eyeing up the dogs legs...and I'm a vego :-) So I have gone over 500, but under my usual 1000. I'm happy with that.

OH NO! Have you not heard the wonderful story of the Stone Soup?!! I grew up with that story! Can't remember the actual plot, but basically somebody put a stone in the pot and then added water and various veggies and made a magical stone soup! I think it was a Ladybird book. Maybe I dreamt it!
Are you fasting today Candy?

How nice to meet another 'home made veg soup' addict @GMH I just love throwing left overs together and coming up with one off soups. In fact, just reading about it makes me want to get a big pan of the stuff cooking to keep me going through the week.

I must say Beanie Bob's @nursebean that I have never heard of the soup stone story either but it does sound interesting.

Can't fast on a Sunday but I shall make up for it tomorrow as Monday is usually a coffee only day for me and I really look forward to it. Never thought I could anticipate going without food but that's what 2 and a half years of IF have done for me, wonderful :victory:

Hi all, I'm in today too. My current weight's a sticking point - I can get here, but I got lower for precisely one day at the end of the Xmas Challenge & one day (a couple of weeks back) of the Equinox Challenge. Going to have myself a personal Pre-Easter Fortnight Challenge, aiming to lose 2lbs in 2wks.
Today is the first day of the rest of my diet!
Soup? Love it - my over 300 of my fastday calories are soup!
