I think the problem with"eat what you like" is that most people who need to lose weight don't really know how a slim person eats.
For us to "eat what we like" it would probably be way over our TDEE every day, whereas for a slim person it would be within it most days.
I hope to lose all my excess weight on this WOE, and to gain the skill of eating and enjoying what keeps me within a normal BMI :clover:
gigi55 I think you have hit the nail on the head. I do eat what I like, have never counted calories on my feed days (& I have lost weight every week for 8 weeks), but I do fast extra and I have never had a problem with overeating - just eating too many calorie dense foods. So if I think I'm eating whatever I like - it would be 1 slice of cake...not 4 magnums   I feel I CAN eat WHAT I want - just NOT in unlimited quantities. Good luck Beeswax!
How you doing Beeswax?
I've managed day 2 shred and survived (so far) and it's a fast day for me. Managed to move this morning which was a bonus, hoping tomorrow isn't too painful!
Might need to buy weights now...

Excellent work, Janeg! I did day 2 today, too - was a bit harder than yesterday thanks to slightly sore muscles and a bit of leftover fast day fatigue, but definitely glad I did it.

Also, I seem to have lost (don't laugh) 0.3kg since I last weighed myself a week ago. Fully expecting to put it on again by the end of the week, but it has put a slight spring in my step!

Hang in there, let me know how you're going - and happy fast day to you! x

This is exactly how I feel. Eating "what I liked" made me maintain (at best) or gain weight. I think counting calories on non-fast days and leaving room for tiny weekend excesses is probably the way to go.

Curiously, I never really snacked or craved sweet things until I gave up smoking three years ago. I was previously a little overfond of calorific meals, but smoking cessation gave me the strongest sweet tooth and that's when the weight piled on. I hope I can control and lessen that through this WOE, and eventually enjoy everything in moderation.
Ballerina wrote: Hi Beeswax,

I consider that 5:2 has been spectacularly successful for me but it hasn't always been that way. I almost gave up more than once due to no weight loss AT ALL FOR WEEKS AND WEEKS AT THE BEGINNING! I can remember how disheartening it was, to say nothing of depressing but for some obscure reason I kept going, something I have NEVER done with a failing diet before. I Just felt so good and I was hoping to get the long term health benefits even if I couldn't lose weight. Then it started, very slowly then it stopped very suddenly, more depression, then it started again and as I've adapted to it it just got easier and easier and I am now 7 lbs below my target weight.

So, the moral of the story is, DON'T GIVE UP!!!!! You WILL get there, honest :like:

Ballerina x

Ballerina, thank you for this. It's so helpful to see that there's another side to this! I'm incredibly impressed with your story (and loss). I was so close to giving up, and this post was a bit of a godsend. Thanks loads x
