omlette confusion !
09 May 2013, 10:13
I hope someone can help, I am completely confused by how many calories are in an omlette ...maybe my brain need more food !
I used 1 small egg plus 1 small egg white, cooked in a tablespoon of olive oil.
I have looked on various calorie counter websites and they come up with between 90 - 160 for the same recipe ! - now I don't know what to have for supper. is there an "official" count somewhere please ? Thanks all.

Well, one tablespoon of olive oil is 120cals so add your egg and white and should be about 210. You could do a lovely omelette in a knob of butter for fewer calories and it tastes delish!

Or just coating a non-stick pan with a few drops of olive oil, using kitchen towel, works fine (I learnt that from Dr. Dukan!).

And use both yolks, rather than all the oil!

I make a sort of omelette in a shallow bowl in the microwave - doesn't need any additional oil.

An egg is about 70, an egg white about 15-20, so that's where the 90 comes from . The oil will really increase your calories, depending on how much you use (and since it is so calorie dense, even an extra splash of oil will be a substantial amount of calories)

I dont use any olive oil or butter, i use dry fry light which is about 1cal per squirt! I coat the pan and use 2 full eggs. I have a sweet omlette in the morning ( i have an extreme sweet tooth) using powdered sweetner mixed into it, then when its ready i used more powedered sweetner to add some on top. Its louuvvverly! Sometimes add half a banana too if im very hungry.
