Fasting today and struggling
13 May 2013, 12:22
Hi all,

Didn't fast last week as was away. Was planning to do my 2 days as normal this week, just had home made soup for lunch and am struggling with the fact that I can't have very much else till tonight. This happened a lot when I first started fasting but I got into a routine with my fasts and it became easier. Today I am lethargic and feel like I've got a headache coming! Hopefully Wednesday will be better!
Yes, hopefully Wednesday will be better. :clover:
Sometimes I struggle with it too. Am drinking some sparkling water with a bit of lime in it just now and aiming to go out and get a couple of things done.
Try and distract yourself, then you'll probably forget about it for a while.
I was the same last week after a week off eating anything & everything, but the 2nd day was fine, think your body maybe remembers how good it is to be able to go into repair mode, so I'm sure you will be back in the swing of things by Wednesday.
If things get too tough today then allow yourself a few extra calories, it's still going to be a lot less than if you had a normal day, look at as easing yourself back into this WOE. :clover:
I feel for you Ridingwood - I had a horrid day last week where I really felt like giving in and trying again the next day.

Someone in a forum very kindly reminded me 'it is only one day'.
That became my mantra and helped realign my mindset.

Do what you can and be kind to yourself.
Thanks for your kind support. Have just made a real black costa coffee with my machine and then am going outside - it is only 1 day but last week I was sooo bad....
BTW I can't abandon today because I've mapped my week out so I do 'eating' things on feed days, so tomorrow is a feed day as is Thursday so it only lft the normal Monday and Wednesday - I find this helps me to control myself in a beeter way than saying - oh I can only eat this or that on each day. Plus if I go to say, my mum's, I don't get into one of those 'oh not another diet' convos lol
I had a similar experience after having a week off (went to Vegas and got married!). I thought I was all ready to get back to the 5:"2 regime, but when Monday morning arrived, I knew I couldn;'t do it - so I moved my days to Tuesday and Friday. Still the first day was not easy, and I;'m sure I went over my 500 cal. The second fast day was easier. And I lost weight! So don';t despair, just work your way back into it and it will be fine.
I'm having a tough day today as well! I'm so glad you posted this; it makes me feel a bit better. I exercised first thing this morning and was ravenous afterwards (stomach growling terribly as well) so I gave in and had a non-fat Greek yogurt. I typically wait until day's end before eating at all. Then I had to have something else around 2p, which left me with only 150 calories for my evening meal. I hope Wednesday is easier! I don't usually struggle so much on Mondays because I'm ready after the weekend. But I have a terrible headache as well. Perhaps not enough H2O today.
Welcome to the forums, Chrisvee! You know, I have a headache today too, but in my case I definitely think it's due to all of the pollen in the air.

I personally can't exercise on fast days due to hunger, but my husband has no problem with it :-(

Thank you for the welcome!

I find that if I've eaten the day before and I exercise in the morning, I'm ok. If I try to exercise in the AM the day after I break a fast or in the evening on a fast day, I can struggle. I'm ok with jogging or spinning but can't do any interval training or resistance training.
Sometimes I struggle, but it helps me psychologically to know that there is food I can have if I want it. I keep a bouillion cube, miso packet, sugarfree jello or 30 calorie dried seaweed packet nearby. I don't always have one, but knowing I can helps me put off eating.

Good luck!
Distraction (normally a long brisk walk) helps me, plus thinking "I can eat tomorrow". Sometimes I find it easiest if I just distract myself, other times I find myself looking up recipes and planning what I'll eat the next day.
"This too shall pass" is my mantra whenever I'm in an uncomfortable place.
Well I did it - kept in the rangeof 500 cals, had a White Choc HIghlights at bedtime to keep me going BUT had a dreadful night, had to keep going to the loo (probably all those drinks lol). Consequently not feeling too good today, just mucked out 2 stables, done a bit of gardening and came in for breakfast - porridge!
