Since I am all day on plane I figured I will try. In my favour - plane food isn't giving up a lot. Going against - there is very little to do except eat and everyone around me will be doing just that.
Lol, you can read and nap? Enjoy your trip. :)
Going anyplace fun? :-)
Good luck with it!
Hope there are some good movies.
It's the only bad thing about living down under isn't it, that LONG trip to the northern Hemisphere!
I'd be interested to know how you go. I'm going to be on a plane next month, and don't know whether to make it a fast day (like you say, plane food is very ordinary) or not. About 12 hours travel time, so not as far as Northern Hemisphere, but food does help with filling in time.
I'm on a plane every other week (at least) and almost always try to take a fast day on those travel days. I've found it very convenient, the food sucks anyway (both in the airport and on the plane) and drinking water helps with jet lag. Let us know how it goes.
Don't forget to drink plenty (non alcoholic unfortunately) enjoy the trip.
I love both the food and the free booze on board, I couldn't possibly resist it. If you do it, you'll have my endless admiration!!!
I did a fast day when I was going on holiday. The journey to the airport hanging around in the airport then the flight and the journey at the other end, lent itself perfectly to a fasting day. Drank lots had a low cal salad before going to departures. Worked well for me. hope it does for you.
I did a fast day when I was travelling on Tuesday, for the first time I easily made it till dinner when I got home with nothing but water and coffee all day. I was so happy, especially as generally when I travel I eat loads of rubbish during the trip to keep me busy. That said I was travelling with my two kids who kept me very busy, I'm not sure if it would have been so easy if I was just sitting on my own...

TML - the way round that is to fly lowcost, the prices of drinks etc on those flights is enough to make anyone want to fast!!
Thanks everyone. I made it! Flew from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Hong Kong with stop over in Bangkok. Skipped the breakfast (even though they had dosas - my favourite) and for second leg took the chicken, peeled off the skin and ate the few vegetables on the plate. The good thing is Sri Lankan Airlines has a menu of teas - so I worked my way through them (ginger, Moroccan mint, cinnamon etc).

Now having some fish and vegetables for dinner to make up 500 calories and going to bed!
Nicky, I carry lots of extra luggage on my way back from England and low cost airlines charge and arm and leg for it. I stick to BA and in the end it comes cheaper than any low cost and I get my free booze and the divine chocolate tart (if I'm lucky)!
I fast to help reset my body clock. What I do is figure my departure time both locally (where I am leaving from) and at my arrival destination and then eat/fast appropriately.

Here is an example.

Leaving Melbourne Australia at 1000hours (Aust Eastern Time) - Transitting Los Angeles arriving 0600 (LA time) - on to New York arrival 1730hours (NY time).

When leaving Australia at 10am it is 8pm in New York, so the meal that they first serve is dinner in New York time (a little bit late but not too bad) so I eat it. After dinner I normally do not eat so I do not eat through the flight until breakfast. Breakfast is served a couple of hours prior to arriving into LA (a little bit earlier than I would normally eat breakfast) so I eat the on board breakfast. Once you are on the plane leaving LA for NY by the time you hit cruising altitude they are serving food which corresponded to lunch time in NY so I ate that meal. After that I did not eat until I was in my hotel room in NYC.

It took approx. 24 hours to fly from Melbourne to New York and I ate three meals in 24 hours dinner and breakfast on the long haul flight and lunch on the continental flight across the US. On my first night it took me approx. half an hour to fall asleep and I woke up at 8am (NY time) wide awake ready for the day.

So in a nutshell:

Figure out your local departure time and convert it to the local time to where you are travelling to.

Figure how many hours you are travelling for and what meals you would normally eat in that time (in the example above it is dinner, breakfast and lunch) and eat **only** those meals, **no snacking**.

Enjoy your holiday without jet lag (or enjoy coming home and being able to go straight back to work).

I started doing this in 2011 so pre-5:2 fasting. In my experience it works.
OhmiGod my brain hurts! Good thing that I only fly to Britain and Cyprus, LOLOLOL!!!
