What are you eating?
12 Sep 2013, 08:07
Hi
I'm interested to know what other people are eating on their fast days. Particularly people who eat more than one meal a day. I've looked around the forum and can't see a post about this, please correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm on a fast day today. Tummy rumbling and I'd be grateful for some tips!

Hi Jlp!

This is something that I posted yesterday re fast day meals...'So today I am fasting and have to say I have just enjoyed the most delicious salad for lunch...homemade kale and spinach salad with grated carrot, red onion and garlic, massaged in peanut, lime and cayenne pepper dressing with M&S lime and coriander chicken!! Absolute delight and thoroughly enjoyed eating it...and it only came in at 225 calories for a plateful!'

I tend to go for fruit in the morning, with a large salad for lunch - if I fancy a dinnertime meal (which is rare), I'll go for a small bowl of soup, or, depending on how many calories I have leftover, a baked sweet potato with some beans or sour cream and sweetcorn or something xx

Hi Jlp!

i tend to eat more of the same me, boring i know but i find it easier that way :-)

if at work on fast day then black coffee in the morning with a plain crumpet, a banana for lunch, plenty of water and when i get home its usually 3 or 4 ryvitas with small tin of tuna, or lean ham and lettuce... and again i try and drink plenty water!

am sure there will lots of food ideas from everyone on here, and there is a section on ideas too...

Morning Jlp,

I'm fasting today and am on black coffee at the moment.

Tonight's dinner will be a small portion of the chicken casserole that I'm cooking for the family, with some of the Ratatouille I made earlier in the week and some BareNaked noodles (also left over from Monday).
If I get too hungry around 2 pm I'll either have some veg soup from the freezer (if there is any left) or some chicken Bovril, with a bit of Tom Yum paste and some mushrooms.
If I need a sweet treat, I have a Sugar Free Werthers, and of course the bedtime mug of Options hot choc.
I don't eat breakfast till about 10.30 - or whenever I get hungry on an regular day, so I tend to be a 2 meals a day person anyway.
Good luck with your fast today :clover:

If I can make it to dinner time without eating, that's my goal. If not I usually carry some oatcakes (2 small thin ones are 70 cals) to just put a lid on the worst pangs. Don't need them now so much. I allow 50 cals for around 3 cups of tea/coffee with milk throughout the day and apart from that it's herbal tea (Yogi Teas do a nice 'choco' one with you can pretend is hot chocolate)

I have been pleasantly surprised by how unhungry (can't really say 'full'!) I feel after the courgette frittatas I've been making recently for dinner. I use 3 eggs (300cals), and fry some sliced courgette in a tsp oil (50 for oil & veg), maybe with some onion & garlic, then add the eggs and cook gently until nearly done. I then grate a few shavings of parmesan over the top (you don't need much, so wouldn't be more than 50 cals) and grill to bubble up. Serve with a green salad or just as it is, it fills one of my big dinner plates so ticks the 'eat with your eyes' box and the other week I ate it early, went to do the food shop in the evening and not only did I not go mad and put lots of calorific things in the trolley, but I also didn't eat the bedtime oatcakes I usually save calories for.

Other good meals have been a salmon fillet roasted on cherry tomatoes, or tofu stir fry (no noodles). Soup will also feature heavily now the weather is getting cooler. I try and keep it simple so I'm not around food too much.

Some lovely ideas thanks!
I have been struggling, so have decided to try 3 meals today.
I've had a few strawberries in low fat yog for breakfast. Just finished a coffee.
I have weighed out some veg for lunch. I've got half a sweet pot, some asparagus, courgette, spring onions. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet! Prob stir fry.
And dinner is lemon chicken with cous cous. Feel ok so far! X

Sian - how do you find the bare naked noodles? They look more appetising than the zero noodles, which look slimy! X

I tend to spread my calories out, I know it doesn't work for many b ut it does for me. Morning-coffee, small portion of grains cereal and soy milk. Midday, small portion berries & grapefruit. Late afternoon, plain veg salad, no dressing and sometimes a smidge of plain cous-cous. I have measured and found the calories to be close to 600. Most of the calories are in the morning cereal.

Jlp, I saw the BareNaked noodles recommended on here, then watched the Video of the Dragon's Den Episode, and decided to try them. I think they are a bit more palatable than the Slim Noodles, not so rubbery.
Also I wanted to support the guy. I got mine in Holland and Barratt, where they weren't part of the Penny Sale :frown:
