I am trying to plan the Christmas eve, New years meals as I will go grocery shopping Monday and won't go back until 2014 after that (except for fruits and vegs but it's in another place) and I can't find any idea for the desserts.

Here's what I know so far

The alcohol during the meal will be a special vodka (bison grass vodka)
On the 24th it will be smoked salmon and grilled shrimps with a salad

On the 31th mussels

On the 1st duck breast with Brussels sprouts and dauphines potatoes

All with homemade appetizers, salads and cheese

But not idea whatsoever about the desserts. I don't want to buy them, but I don't want something too long to make as well. Plus I have to plan things as I will need to go use my parents' oven as mine is a tiny electric and not reliable one....

Please help......
Hi Manderely. I'm logged in on my phone so can't post the link but the website is Taste.com.au and the recipe is Raspberry swirl cheesecakes. They are baked in a muffin tin. Dead easy and everyone I know had loved them.
Red wine sorbet! Christmas pudding ice cream with muscat or dessert wine. Well that's what I'm having anyway, make in advance and forget.
What about a pavlova - you could cook the meringue base at your parents in advance and assemble at home
What about the easiest...but most delicious?! Butterscotch Angel Delight mmmmmmmm

K
'Eton Mess' has to be the simplest dessert to make. Crush ready made meringues and stir them into whipped double cream and strawberry pieces, done! How easy is that? You can put any fruit you like in it and/or tart it up with some liqueurs to your taste. Yum, yum :starving:

Ballerina x
Took Eton mess as my contribution to Christmas lunch dessert last year. It tasted beautiful but my meringue had melted. So IMHO would prepare all the bits and just assemble close to serving from experience. Agree with Ballerina it is a classic and fits well now we know more about fats. I made mine with raspberries ....yum

Thinking this year about making a flour less chocolate cake this year served with a heap of berries of all persuasion and double cream and maybe a very good vanilla bean ice cream
@wineclock the cheesecake looks yummy, a bit too much for 3 however

@Debs Never heard of red wine sorbet, how do you do that ?

@nursebean the trouble is, we don't have butterscotch angel delight here

@Lil,@Ballerina, @gillymary I have to look how it's made but it can be one of the desserts, with an eton mess as well. For the Eton mess I was thinking pineapple and vanilla ice cream instead of strawberries and whipped cream

And some chocolate mousse with all that

I think I must be a bit crazy to plan that on a fast day
Does not sound mad to me, go for it

Planning desserts while fasting and only with soup on my belly is not nuts ? Damned I will probably dream of chocolate, meringue and salted caramel tonight.... And you don't know how I regret to not have cadbury flakes near my hand right now
More sweet treats than desert, but check out Anna's Jewel Bites http://www.itv.com/thismorning/food/cho ... oze-recipe
Keep strong and you can never plan enough I reckon it pays off big time

Yes flakes reminds me of a really decadent desert called banoffee pie
It is a combo of crushed digestive biscuits and butter as a base pop in fridge to set
Cover the base with caramel which is condensed milk boiled in the tin (be careful) better to buy ready done and called pie filling found in the cake section of supermarket. On top of caramel you make a layer of banana slices which takes about 3 bananas as it is nice if the banana is generous. On top slather a whole lot of cream. Now for your flake crumble it over the top. It is an orgasmic dessert ... No other way to describe it
First time ever I hear of an orgasmic dessert

Sounds yummy but it must be 2000 cal if not more.... Not reasonable after foie gras
 Hi Manderlay
Probably fat to many calories but I love homemade tiramisu its got the added benefit of no cooking :clover: Sue :clover: :clover:
Just the look on peoples faces when eating the banoffee pie is enough to know it hits the spot. It is a feast day dessert but if shared around it disappears so rapidly a second slice generally not an option. Anyway we have 5:2 to fall back on to repair
