Fasting with Medical Conditions

My husband will first go & see his GP but is interested in the health benefits of 5:2 particularly in insulin regulation & improving his blood levels. He has also been prescribed statins. He probably needs to lose 10-12 lbs to be at his best weight level. Any shared experiences would be really helpful.
Thank you
