Forum Suggestion

I am doing time restricted fasting. I didn't like 5:2.
Since the name of this website is FastDay, I guess I just took it for granted that all types of fasting were considered equal.
Unless I'm missing something, I see that 16:8, Fast-5 and other forms of time restricted fasting are not considered part of the main forum. That's a shame. A new study just came out on time restricted fasting in the Journal of Cell Metabolism, http://www.cell.com/cell-metabolism/abs ... %2900498-7

I think this form of fasting will really take off in the next year. Please give us a main forum too! The Fast-5 facebook group has over 3,000 members (many doing 16:8), so I think you'd have customers!

Thanks for consideration in this.

Great suggestion and I'm sure @Moogie will have a look at this.

16:8 isn't disallowed on this forum by any stretch of the imagination. Many people use it as part of their eating habits here - although most of the people doing 16:8 here are doing it as part of their maintenance plan. My husband and I do a couple of days of 16:8 and a couple of days of normal 5:2 fasting (500 calories) each week. Posts about 16:8 are welcome in any part of our forums here, and you'll get a mixed bag of results from enthusiastic supporters to detractors.

I do have to agree with daisygal to an extent - I remember lurking around the site (actually its predecessor 52fastdiet) last time I did 5:2 - I was really interested in exploring 16:8 as a maintence/follow-on to 5:2 and was surprosed that the info was so scattered around the site.
Although it's not something I'm personally looking into right now, given that this site is called FastDay (no longer mentioning 5:2 in the title) I think a 16:8 subforum would be of interest to a lot of people arriving at the site looking for more fasting WOEs than just 5:2.

I think it's a great idea, too. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't think it's a sleight toward the eating window approach (since 4:3, ADF, low carb, etc. tents are in the same place), but it does mean useful diet info and interaction is hidden away someplace you might not expect to find it.

Hi daisygal,
The site name was partly changed to incorporate all the different types of fssting that everyone did here, and you will see lots of 'tents' dotted around catering for different types of fasting, from classic 5:2 to fast5, whatever floats peoples' boats!
Carorees lost a huge amount of her weight doing 16:8 for instance after starting 5:2. We are a broad and welcming bunch (well maybe less of the broad  ); whatever works for you!

I think we are "multicultural" here from a fasting point of view. Anything goes. Everybody tolerates and now accepts that people fast in so many different ways. The history of the site is that it started about 5:2 due to MM on BBC horizon, and the old name reflected this. Then there were the eating window people and then the ADF and so on. I know i got into trouble when i started a thread suggesting we remember the basics of 5:2, or keeping it simple after which point in time I shut my mouth.
This is on e of the threads i started last year.. post195392.html?hilit=back%20to%20basics#p195392

As an avid 4:3er, ill instantly shut my mouth again. lol

but seeing you have me started.

when you say "I see that 16:8, Fast-5 and other forms of time restricted fasting are not considered part of the main forum".

on what do you base this on. Im guessing that the titles of many of the sections in the forum have 5:2 in the name

eg
5:2 Diet Life

General 5:2 and Fasting Chat
5:2 Diet Food
5:2 Diet 'Rules' & Variations

Eating windows is very much part of General 5:2 and Fasting chat via topics and tents as well as the 5:2 diet rules and variations

Structuring the home sections so that "Time restricted fasting" or "Eating Windows" or 16:8 gets equal billing I guess could be a consideration.

It's interesting as i have never heard the phrase "time restricted fasting" before though its a very apt name for the method, maybe better than eating windows.

In the media 5:2 is definitely getting more footage than TRF or EW because of the books and the many magazine articles and now cook books galore. Im guessing it would take a program like BBC Horizon or other documentary to give the alternate methods more awareness in the public. Probably needs a celebrity/media person behind it.

I'm sorry but I really don't get what's worng here...
I think that the reason the site changed its name was to show that we are a "Fasting" community, and not just a 5.2 one. The only type not discussed here is extended fasting.

Maybe a little more investigation and reading around the site you will find the tents or sub forums about eating windows, 4.3, 16.8 low carb, oh the list is endless. It's just that they are all pitched up in the camp site Glastonbury glamping grounds.
I hope you settle in and find what you're all looking for.

I am sure there is greater awareness of 5:2, certainly in the UK, because of all the 5:2 cookbooks on the shelves in places like W H Smith, Waterstones and other bookshops. Time restricted fasting way of eating does not have cookbooks, because there is no necessity to have a meal with just around 500 or 600 calories in it, or less.

I have to agree with Carie. Everything to do with fasting is covered on this forum. We have tents for everything and 16:8 is a big part of our discussions. Just look at "our Caroline" Carorees and how well she has done by following 16:8. I don't think a separate site needs to be started. I wouldn't want to just discuss 16:8 because, personally, I branch out into different fasting methods from time to time...its all here as far as I can see.

Thanks for the feedback.

I didn't mean to sound harsh, and I apologize if I came off that way, but as someone did state, 16:8 (and other forms of time restricted fasting) is harder to find than 5:2 because it is a tent or sub-topic. It really should be a main forum like 5:2 is, especially since this site is now called FastDiet and no longer 5:2.

I think all forms of fasting are great; 5:2 just wasn't for me. Eating sensibly combined with 16:8 works very well for me.

Again, thanks for all the feedback.

No drama. I guess its up to the forum moderators to see if a restructure of the topic headings can be considered and maybe breaking down the two types of fasting into day based ones and time based ones. I think thats the diff in that time based ones happen every day of the week and day based ones are determined by which day it is in the week if that makes sense.

This would help reinforce the very reason the name of the domain changed and the word 5:2 was eliminated (5-2fastdiet.co.uk) and make it more welcome for everyone who intermittently fasts.

I can't believe I haven't spotted this topic before (guess I missed the tag notification, sorry!)! This is a great idea and I think we should have an 'Eating Window' type forum, we need a clear name for it for sure and I do quite like 'Time Restricted Fasting' but I feel like the word 'restricted' jumps out at me as a negative word, maybe something like Daily Fasting Methods?
Re: Forum Suggestion

FastDay is a snappy title for 5:2, 6:1, 4:3 and ADF fasting styles, how about something like DailyFast for the window methods. A few window eaters do not do their window every day of the week, but some esteemed members of this community rarely have a Fast Day when they reach maintenance.
