Hi Sarah,
I think you'll find this thread useful. Basically it means that you eat in an eight hour window every day, in effect skipping brekkie and eating between 12pm and 8pm for example.
I use it somedays just to cut down on calories and I don't feel hungry when I wake up these days so don't bother eating until later in the day. I am sure some others will have personal experience to share.

Hi Sarah. Eating only within an 8 hour window is very popular with many of us here. It gives the body a full 16 hours in 'repair' mode. It's a useful discipline. Reduces snacking and re-trains your appetite. Some are trying 20:4 too.

Hi and welcome:

As someone just starting, I recommend that you first successfully do 5:2 for at least a month. When you have done that, you can think of other things to do if you want.

To answer your question, with 16:8 you do not eat for your choice of 16 consecutive hours, and you can eat as much of anything you want in the remaining 8 hour window. There is no calorie restriction involved and even the most ardent supporters of 16:8 on this site have posted that you have to watch how much you eat using 16:8 or you will start gaining weight. A short hand way some put it is skipping breakfast. 20:4 is skipping breakfast and lunch. I think they are best used by those trying to maintain their weight, or by those that are already experienced and successful with 5:2.

Here are some tips for someone just beginning 5:2: post68626.html#p68626

Good Luck!
