Are strong fluctuations normal?
23 Sep 2013, 01:23
I've started 5 weeks ago and have had some excellent weight loss. Last week I only managed one fasting day (Monday) but was still pretty careful on most other days. Regular strenuous exercise too.

The scales however are showing I am putting on weight. I measure myself most days which doesn't help with my confidence levels. Looking at other people's progress trackers they don't seem to have such strong fluctuations early on in their new diet. Should I keep track of my calories on all days or back off a bit?
Personally, I would relax. I have decided to only weigh once a month. This way of eating is for a life time. I have lost over 5kg since April, over the winter months. I expect to continue losing weight over the following months, however slowly and it isn't a race. Scales are strange creaturea and don't seem to have much logic in their behaviour. Weighing all the time, makes me feel anxious and depressed when the numbers don't do what I want, so I forget it. I just do 2 days fasting a week and leave the rest to God. You will get many different answers to your post, though. So that's just my 2 bob's worth.
I weigh once a week just to keep me honest. I don't track any calories, but feel I have a good sense of what most food would add up to. Since your BMI is already fairly good, I say, relax a bit, and know your weight loss may be a little slower than those who have more to lose.
Read this thread not-losing-weight-f27/5-2-diet-weight-gain-t1006.html you can be very very good and still have strong fluctuations. Keep with the program and you will see results. ;)
That link is great. I'll make sure to re-read ithe article again when I start to doubt it.
Wmr309, daily weighing is no bad thing (says she who weighs monthly when she remembers)! The key to it seems to be using one of the apps that plot the trend line. Libra seems to be a popular one. This seems to kill two birds with one stone- helping to allay the stress of weighing daily and the stress of seeing the results. ;)

Might be helpful?
That's what I do - see kencc's posts for more info and examples...
Hi and Welcome
I usually weigh in once each week have done since I started (Fri morn)
but occasionally like this morning I sneak a look because I've had a naughty weekend, well if I see a gain I know I need to pull out all my reserves before Fri to make sure it shows a loss
Don't know why I've started this but I need to stop because this WOL is so working for me and I don't want to obsess with/& about the scales.
Good Luck. :clover: Sue. :clover:
