Concentration Problems
30 Jan 2014, 15:38
I am really struggling to concentrate today (and apparently type, this message is taking ages to get out), its a fast day and I wonder if that's the reason. I've just come back to fasting after 2 months off.

Any tips for how I can combat this, it's certainly not ideal since I am working on a rather complicated piece of legal research.

I find a salty drink like bouillon really helps my concentration on a fast day, takes the fuzzy's away. :)

A couple of tangerines might do the trick.

Yep, a salty drink. Don't just dab a bit of table salt on your fingers, and lick it off as all that will give you is bare sodium Chloride, two chemicals, you need a few more minerals than that. So a dink of Bovril if in the UK or some boullion/stock. Or a bit of sea salt in a low calorie vegetable soup.

It usually comes down to low electrolytes because they have been flushed out by the extra water we are drinking. Or its a low caffeine level. Make sure you are drinking your normal amounts of caffeine.

I also have a job that requires serious concentration a lot of the time. When I first started with IF, I wasn't sure i would be able to stick with it. I always had one weekend fast, just to make sure I had more productive days at work (I was doing 4:3, so still not ideal in terms of productivity). After a couple of weeks, though, I was fine, other than maybe the third fast--so I started timing that for the weekend (T Th Sat). Finally, even the third fast didn't bother me, and now i tend to fast M W F.

Basically, you do get used to it. Good luck!

Thanks so much everyone! I don't drink any caffeine at all but that includes normal days so a coffee won't be much help (I'll be bouncing off the walls in no time). But the boullion drink sounds like a great plan.
