General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Hi everyone

I have successfully completed my first week on 5:2. I find I am far less bloated and my digestion has improved, probably due to the amount of water I'm now drinking... Below are the the times and what I ate for my 500 cals on the two fast days and would basically just like to ask if what I am eating at these times is correct if that makes sense? I keep reading that everyone is different and to just "do what works for you" I also realise with starting out on most diets, there will probably be fluctuation in my weight the first few weeks.

Start fast Monday night 8pm

Tuesday = Fast day 500 calories

9.30am - 1 medium banana

1pm - half carton of soup and small slice whole meal bread

7pm - 100g quorn chicken pieces and vegetables

Wednesday - Back to normal

Any advice would be very much appreciated :-)
get rid of the Banana. And have berries instead otherwise it's all fine.
Thanks Nessie, would that just be to lower cals?
What you are doing is fine - you may find that as time goes on and you have a few fasts under you belt that you can delay breakfast until the afternoon and eventually just have one evening meal, but it really is an individual thing. There is some benefit extending the time without food apparently for the "repairs" to take place, but just take it at your own pace. This wol should suit you and your lifestyle, not the other way round.
Agree with Nessie about the banana, keep it for a non-fast day. it will lower cals and carbs if you replace it with berries.
Thanks Dhana that's really helpful advice... Yes I'd read that starting out it's slightly easier to spread you 500 cals into 3 small meals then reduce to 2 or 1 meal when you feel ready. Already feeling benefits of this wol and don't feel like someone on a diet ie.miserable ha ha :-)
There's no "correct" or "incorrect" on fast days, other than to eat a maximum of around 500 calories if you're a woman. You can eat 3, 6 or 10 times a day. You can eat once a day or not at all. You can use your entire calorie allowance on wine or chocolate or cheese or lattes or whatever the heck you fancy, or you can do as many do and use it up with loads of veg, some fruit and a little protein.

As you go on you will find what works best for you. Many longer-term fasters find it's easiest to only start eating later in the day (2-3pm-ish) and have only veg and protein when they do eat - but There Are No Rules! If you want that banana, go ahead. You can have about 5 if you wish!
I often have a banana on a fast day.
Thanks Tara :-) I chose a banana to have in the morning because I felt it would fill me up on a smallish amount of calories. I do understand that the berries have a much lower carb count tho... I did Atkins a long time ago and it was terrible trying to figure out what I could and couldn't have... Very difficult to stick to!
