Hmm..
22 Oct 2013, 01:24
On fast days since the start, I've pretty much survived on fruit teas and chewing gum all day until dinner and always kept to below 500cals.
But recently I was starting to get a bit bored and tried the stock cubes in water and also miso soup. I know these are both REALLY low cals and I don't mind that it means I get a bit less for dinner. But is it going to slow down my weight loss? I feel like I was doing much better before just going all day on teas but now I've discovered I can have these drinks, it feels much more sustainable. I guess I feel as though I'm going backwards?
What do you all think? (The stock cubes I have are 9cals each and the miso soup is 27). I've been having 2 soups each fast day and 1 stock cube.

I read this post just after finishing my second cup of instant miso soup of the day. I think there's no way it will slow down your weight loss if you are allowing for those calories. I agree that these soups feel like real food even though they are really low calorie, and so yes, helps make the 5:2 sustainable.

In sum, no, you are not going backwards at all!!

I'm not sure Lil, but I think if you find it more sustainable maybe you could keep having the miso etc as this is your WOL and there's no rush. I'v e day 2 or 3 skim milk teas all along on fasting days and have only just started having only dinner about a month ago but I allow myself the choice to have a frozen low cal vege soup or miso if I need it. Maybe just give yourself the choice. :-)
Good luck.

As others have said I don't think it will slow your weight loss, but I'm guessing it will make this more manageable and sustainable in the long run.

I have never had miso soup so I don't know what it tastes like / how nutritious it is, but how about making a low cal veg soup and having that instead? I am guessing it will be better for you than stock cubes.

This weeks batch of soup is butternut squash, it comes in at just under 60 cal for a BIG bowl, which would be equal to about 2 - 3 mugs of soup. I make a big pan of soup at the start of the week, and have it almost every day (I freeze some so it lasts all week). It keeps me sane on fast days...

It's got to be sustainable & it sure is better to succumb to some miso soup than to a plate of chips

I've personally never done a fast without an evening meal of up to 500 cals so you're doing way better than me :like:
