Moral support, please!
14 May 2015, 01:42
Hi everyone!

I have been on the Fast Diet for almost four weeks now and I'm thrilled with my results - 3.7kg (8lbs) lost so far. I look and feel so much better already.
Today, though, I've hit my first real snag - I am fasting with a hangover (only had three glasses of wine - such a lightweight these days!). This is my second fast day of the week and I have social plans over the weekend, so no option to switch to a different day. I'll have homemade broccoli soup for lunch, which I won't eat until after my spinning class at 12.30. Then some white fish and veg for dinner.
I am struggling BIG TIME. I feel so so hungry but I am determined to stick with it. Can anyone offer to moral support/success stories to keep me on track? Thanks in advance!

Hi @Polly in Oz, wow, your results so far are great and you should be thrilled! :)

Everyone has days that are more challenging - have a good read around the forum (there are LOTS of success stories) and the fasting library for information and ideas that will help you through the day and on this journey.

Keep as busy as possible - going out to your spin class should help; tackle those chores you keep putting off; get out in the garden, go for a long walk, have another black coffee or tea, go to bed early. The day will pass and your determination will help!

Good luck and best wishes. :clover:

Sometimes hangover fasts are easy, and other times…

Drink lots of coffee. Try sugar-free gum if you're going really crazy with hunger.

Good luck!

Hangovers make me hungry, esp for toast!! Don't stress if you don't quite make it, we're only human.

I made it to the gym and have just eaten my soup. Sweet relief. I think I can manage until dinner and bed now. Phew! Thank you everyone.

Well done Polly, I am very impressed. I turn into a carb monster when I have a hangover

Wow, @polly in oz - congrats on your success so far, that's brilliant!

I am a total lightweight on the drink front! A couple of sips of wine....and my legs go completely. So I've never fasted with a hangover, but the advice you've already been given will work in all circumstances I think. Anything to take your mind off what's going on. The keep busy scenario works, so does an early night!

Glad you've got thru it. Onwards and downwards as we say on here! Xx

Wow @Polly in Oz, you are doing so well in the time you've been on 5:2.
I'd suggest to keep well hydrated today, so lots of herbal tea's if you like them or water or plain old squash...... just keep the fluids flowing!!
Good luck :like:

I tend to sip water (lemon or cucumber water works as well as they taste so good) to preoccupy my mouth whilst I get those intense hunger pangs. Another option is a low calories energy/vitamin supplement like Berocca. No idea if you have that in Australia, but they tend to give me a bit of satisfaction without the guilt of breaking my fast.

Alternatively, if all else fails (and you can), have a nap! Whatever gets you off of thinking about food.

And remember not to beat yourself up if you have a challenging day and succumb. It's a process, this way of eating.

I've found that honey works well in preventing hangovers; preferably, a great big tablespoon of it after drinking just before bed. The idea is that the unique sugars in honey (must be honey) support the liver in detoxing the alcohol. A big glass of plain water with it is good too.

Since it's after the fact and you're on a light day, you could add a bit of honey (yeah, the calories count, sorry) to your tea or other hot beverage. I also love my veggie broth on light days; I add a tiny blob of coconut oil (could also use butter/ghee) to it to increase satiety, along with the nice savory taste (and salt; love my salt!) of the broth. Another weird thing I like when "hangry," especially if tummy is unhappy (which is how my hangovers manifest) is sauerkraut--the real stuff, raw and no vinegar. Has practically no cals and is very good for the belly. Today is my light day, and I'm currently drinking my usual pot o' green tea (following one black coffee; too much coffee on an empty stomach is not good...), which I nurse for a couple of hours.

Fry a free range egg in half a tsp of butter and a bit of salt. I think the choline in the egg helps you feel better if you have a hangover and its only around 100 calories.
