Does Weight Loss happen in the 1st week of the 5:2 diet? I fasted Wednesday and now today (Friday) and going to eat normal on the weekend.. Then going to fast Monday/Thursday from now on.. I'm play to weigh on Wednesdays. Not sure I should be expecting a weight loss or does this take a while? Please share thoughts.. Thanks!

Hi Dxtra30, you may already have worked out the answer (as I see you are active posting around here - great!) but in case not, the answer is: usually. In fact weight loss is normally greater in the first week of any diet, 5:2 included. But that's because the loss is mostly water, so it is a 'one-off' gain which will be reversed if you stop the diet, or sorry the lifestyle as I should say.
But everyone is different and our weight varies quite a bit week by week and even day by day, so don't be devastated if you don't see good results in week 1.
As far as weight loss goes, 5:2 works like any other calorie-counting diet. The idea is that you cut your intake by 20%, and on average that equates to around about 1 lb / week. Even if this doesn't show up in week 1, the good work has started and it will show through in due course.
If it doesn't, the probability is that you are eating more than your TDEE on the other 5 days, so that what you are losing (in weight) by fasting is being balanced (or, worse over-balanced) by what you are over-eating on the feed days. Provided you just eat normally this shouldn't be a problem. I would say that everyone who sticks with 5:2 gets good results.
Have fun on the forum, and enjoy the new lighter you with 5:2!
