Alternate day Fasting
21 Feb 2013, 13:28
Hi - does anyone do alternate day fasting? If so, is it difficult or does it just become habit? I'm just on my second consecutive day of fasting but am thinking about giving ADF a go - any advice or experiences gratefully received :)

I try it all, one day on, one day off. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or just the bog standard 2 days, either back to back or not. This way, if I am out a couple of days and can't fast, I don't have to beat myself up. Try it and see, good luck. Oh, by the way, I have lost 11LB since new year.

I do ADF as it's simple, I'm either fasting or eating, I'm not good with choice.

I'm probably a wee bit more liberal with cals and am currently losing a pound a week. I don't go out to work and having just moved, have a limited social life so it's very doable for me.

@slimline - wow, well done, sounds like you have found a system that works :)

@BBT - yeah I like the simplicity of every other day, i'm not good with choice either.....i find it leads to temptation :)

Thanks both for your advice, I might try 3 days fasting next week and see how it goes before embarking on the full alternate days.

I really don't find it a problem, as I can eat whatever I want the next day. I have quite a busy life with stuff to do so like the simplicity and I'm at that point in life where I now can barely remember yesterday, never mind that I was hungry the day before.

I don't really count calories unless I really don't have a clue (6 pistachio nuts weigh 8 g!) but I don't find it an issue. I would probably say I have 5-700 cals per fast day. I'm 14 stone and my TTEE varies but is more than 2000 cals per day so it's ok. Much as it would be nice to drop lots of weight quickly, this is better as I don't want to end up baggy, which is an issue as my tum was quite large.

Weirdly, the 4 fasting days last week were easier than the 3 the week before...

I do 4:3 which is, if the fast days are taken separately as I do, very close to ADF but for me has the advantage of making planning ahead easier as I know I will be fasting Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays no matter which week it is. Also leaves the weekends, when more likely to be eating out clear.
