Last hours of second fast
18 Apr 2013, 19:38
Well today the fast went really well, managed to get to about 12.30 before eating lunch and really felt good and had little hunger before eating, The problem came in the evening when I prepared food for the rest of the family. I made some roast potatoes and roast chicken for them. VERY hard not to cave at this point, I love roast chicken and potatoes. So, I decided to leave myself a couple of pieces of potato and some chicken so I can have some for my lunch tomorrow, not the best the dya after, but better than missing out completely. What does my hubby do EAT ONE OF MY POTATOES!!! ARGH! Apparently I have to put up signs to stop scavenging!

How do other people cope with cooking for the family when on a fast day themselves? It was okay on the first fast as I just gave them oven food, but I had to cook the dinner I did tonight. I was thinking, is it easier to save the full quota of calories for the evening and partially eat what they are or do what I did and eat 2 meals and then eat differently to them?

Thanks.

Wow, well done for resisting, its my 3rd fast today and it was so much easier than my second!

I cant really help with the cooking thing, as its just me and hubby and he is doing the diet too so we just had egg on toast for dinner! There are lots of recipes on here that u could cook for everyone and then have a small portion for yourself maybe?

I save all my calories for dinner and then cook one meal for all of us, adding extra starch and/or dessert for the boys. My blog has the recipes I have used so far and there are links to other blogs with great 5:2 recipes.

Thanks for the feedback, I will have a look into the recipes, I'm just not very good at following them I tend to read around and adapt them, so will be tough for me to do, but I must try something. I have been going for easy foods like eggs and miso soups (with added veg and protein) which i don't have to do much calulations for!

Will check out your blog NikkiN, as it's good to hear about coping when feeding a family. Good to hear that one meal a day has worked for you.

I save my calories as well, and add extra veggie for me and extra starch for them. But very simple meals, so easy to calculate calories (and I weigh my food as I portion it for my self).

Although yesterday I did a roast in the crock pot, one dish, meat veg and potatoes.

On fast days I make pasta for my kids, and my husband and I eat a low cal dinner - usually meat or fish with loads of green veggies. If he's hungry after, he has a hunk of bread and butter, or pudding.

I don't save my calories up for dinner, but I do skip breakfast on fast days and have an earlyish small lunch.
