Late night fasting
22 Apr 2013, 11:31
I'm fasting today - but will probably have to work into the night.
Do I still spread my 500 calories over the whole time I'm awake?
ie from 6am to 1-2am?

Any experiences from people with eratic shifts appreciated.

I do not spread my calories out. I find it just makes me a lot hungrier. Once I start eating, it's like a hunger switch is turned on.

I personally do a *lot* better when I just eat one main meal at dinner time. For your schedule, I would probably do something like a large salad (because it's so bulky) using non-starchy things like greens, baby spinach, carrots, onions, cucumber, radishes, add a piece of lean protein (chicken or fish) and some diet dressing (I like Newmans light vinaigrette, or I can even do something as drastic as a white lemon balsamic vinegar with a couple of herbs thrown in. Then I would probably have enough calories left over for a yogurt later in the night (be sure it's lower in calories - I get a natural, very lightly sweetened one at my health food store).

Many times I don't go to bed before 3, 4am. I usually stop eating around 1am but in general I spread my calories throughout the entire time I'm awake.

I also do not go to bed until 2, or latest 4am, I'm just an owl who seems to suddenly ' wake up' at around 10pm no matter how tired I have been in the afternoon! This infuriates hubby who is a 'lark' what I do is have one 400cal meal early evening and then have 100cals to spend on a yoghurt (soya) later in the night before bed.

Erratic long day worker here! I have my one 500 cal meal in the evening and just keep going with lots of fluid. I'm usually so busy that I don't notice hunger- and it tends to be physical work
