Mmm, they look good Old Nog! I remember making some beer from a Boots kit back in the dark ages. It wasn't much good, but it may be unfair to blame the kit...

I take your point about the additives in commercial beers. For lager I usually buy those German (and Italian) ones that claim purity, they also taste better than run-of-the-mill British lagers (though I haven't drunk any of those for years).

To be honest I don't often drink enough beer for it to give me a bad head (wine is more commonly my downfall), but I can't help suspecting that an overdose of homebrew - even such a superb example as yours - would leave me jaded the morning after!
