scale for weight and fat loss
27 May 2013, 11:08
I have a scale that measures weight but would like one that also measures body fat.. I live in the USA and our scales are in pounds. Does anyone know a good reliable scale for both weight and fat measurements?
Hi Tink59

I have some fancy scales that measure body fat and all sorts of other things too. However on another thread I have been complaining about variations in weight on the scales.
I don't think this is because the scales are faulty / unreliable just that they are very sensitive and need to be on a flat surface in the same place.
They do measure in pounds, although I have mine set to kg at the moment as I am trying to be metric. The GB instructions are in lbs.
The scales are Tanita ones - they do quite a range of different scales. Hope that helps a bit - I think there are some other threads on scales from a while ago but not sure where, might be able to find them via search.
Hubby bought me an all singing all dancing set from http://www.beurer.com/ when I said that the old scales were having fits at me (one glass of water supposedly weighed 2.4lbs). The main problem with them is that they can only measure body fat if there isn't too much body fat. They are based on electrical conductivity and fat doesn't conduct electricity very well. If your fat percentage is over 50% they won't work. So if you are very overweight the all singing all danceing may not be worth the trouble or cost.
Saying that, my son who has a higher BMI than I do, gets on them and they work. Go figure!
