General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Yes, I know. Wishful thinking for most of us :? but a good friend of mine is really interested in the health benefits of fasting, but doesn't need to lose weight. What should she do??
Hi ginger17,

There are several ways she could approach it.

  1. Dr M moved onto 6:1 for instance when his OH thought he had lost enough.
  2. She could eat a bit more on the 5 days to compensate for the restricted calories on the 2. (It's maybe a bit dangerous to overeat deliberately at any time of the week, but if she is not an overeater by nature (unlike so many of us!), it might be okay.)
  3. I think Caroline's OH has a good strategy, fasting through the two days but then eating fully and unrestrictedly in the evening - see http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=566&p=4110&hilit=health+benefits#p4110. This way your friend can get the full health benefits from a period of almost 24 house fasting, and yet still take in plenty of calories.

Hope this helps!
