I'm hoping the answer may be yes but wouldn't ask if I was confident it is.

On Monday I fasted through breakfast and lunch, had a small dinner but then ice cream for afters and went out for a couple of drinks. So that didn't count as a fast day although I didn't calculate by how much I was over the 500 kcal.

On Tuesday I tried again, fasted through breakfast and lunch, had a small sensible dinner but then later let myself snack on rye crackers, dark chocolate and again ice cream (I blame the weather) and put myself over calorie allowance.

Health-wise I managed ca 22 hour complete fasts both days but then went over on the calories; but even if I ate 1000kcal each day, that's still a "saving" of 2000kcal over the two days so an equivalent of a complete day's fast.

Does it work like that?

If I eat normally today and do a complete liquid fast tomorrow (Thursdays are usually more successful) does that mean I'm back on track for the whole week? :?:
Not sure if it equals a fast Pineneedles but as the saying goes 'every little helps' that's 2000 calories less so it must make some difference.
Good luck for tomorrow :clover:
I think that you will be fine, especially if you manage a full fast tomorrow - liquid or not. It is, after all, the total calorie deficit over a week, month or year which leads to weight loss, so occasional blips (as long as they don't become a habit!) shouldn't matter at all. Good luck for tomorrow!
I'd see that as totally on track - you've had some great non-eating long stretches for the health benefits, and a very good overall calorie deficit.

I've done this a few times lately - fasted all day then gone out in the evening and eaten and drunk freely, plus one liquid fast in the week, and have continued to lose, and feel well.
Calorie-wise it is probably the same thing. I'm not sure if it provides the same "shock" to the body but you still eat as less calories as you would if you did two fasts. All's well, don't doubt yourself and don't worry. :-)
If you read up on Brad Pilon, it counts for him and he has been fasting long before this fast diet book came out.......
Thank you everyone! This seems to happen so often for me. Easy fasting throughout the day and then it all goes to pieces after dinnertime. Liquid fasting is easier psychologically but can make me really hungry at bedtime/at night so I'm still trying to work out what the best solution is. Maybe it's to only have a bit of solid food at bedtime, then straight to bed with no opportunity for further snack attacks - may try that strategy tomorrow.

Hadn't heard of Brad Pilon but reading up on him now. Good to have further resources! Thanks Aina.
I can't count the number of times I have started a fast day only to overeat, so I just make the following day the fast day. Flexibility on when I do my fast days is one of the major factors that is keeping me on 5:2.
If your goal is weight loss then it does count for something. You've got a calorie deficit going, right? But for other aspects of fasting, it might not count. Some of the purported medical benefits count on fasting for longer times as does trying to promote ketosis/fat burning. I think you're plan sounds like a good one. The liquid fasting for the day should hit those other points.

I've been with this WoE for 4 months now and still tweak my eating schedule as I go along. Now that it's hot here I find certain things work for me that didn't in the winter. It's easier to eat less calories during the hot part of the day and harder to say no to ice cream at the end of the day. I'm delaying my evening meal to make it easier to resist the call of the freezer. :D
