Intermittent means "occurring at regular intervals", so intermittent fasting is when you fast for certain periods of time. That can mean anything from fasting every other day, to 5:2, to fasting for 16 hours/eating for 8 (often called "eating windows").
A fasting day is a day where you are controlling your eating. Most people treat a fasting day as from the time you go to bed one night, through the entire next day, until the time you wake up on the 2nd day. So roughly 30 hours ish. We would say 24 hours, but that tends to lead to confusion. We had people coming on thinking they could eat like mad until 6pm, fast for 24 hours and then eat like mad again. Well if you're getting in a full day's worth of calories before 6 on the first day and again after 6 on the next day, that's not doing any good at all.

Personally, I stopped eating at about 9pm last night. I won't eat again until dinner tonight at about 6pm. I will consume between 500 and 600 calories tonight before bed (my TDEE is 2200 to 2400 calories per day, according to my fitbit, depending on how active I am).
ETA: This means I will eat between 1600 and 1900 fewer calories than usual. So roughly, it's not eating enough calories to lose a half a pound of fat, if all other things remain ok (i.e. I'm not over eating on feed days, I'm getting in enough exercise, and I'm not having any hormonal or metabolic issues).
