Yom Kippur

Are there any other Jews on here pondering about the Yom Kippur fast?

I'm not practising and haven't fasted for YK in decades but I'm now giving it serious consideration, as is a friend who's doing paleo. We are currently discussing eating steak before the fast and breaking it with a roast chicken. We are both agreed that water is going to be essential too, even though it's not normally permitted.

I'm as yet undecided, partly because it doesn't fall on one of my regular fast days so I'd have to some date shuffling or treat it as an extra fast. And partly because I have epilepsy, which is why I'd have a water intake. If I were still observant, the irony is I'd be excused fasting completely for medical reasons (pichuah nefesh).

So, who else is in?

Hi. Elanas Pantry has some inspirational Yom Kippur menus. Might be worth a look?

Thanks, I'll check that out. I ate pretty well last night for my solo Rosh Hashanah seder because I'm fasting today.

I'm still undecided about a YK fast but I'm probably going to do it!
