Thank you, I'm much better now, but was really unwell for about a month. It probably was a co-incidence, I did get told off at the GPs for working too hard and not taking enough rest

Congratulations @radleykitten on reaching your goal! I think it must be bad luck on your part. I have been fasting for almost one year and not had one single bout of illness - not even a sniffle!
If there's one thing we know, it's that our body likes stability. If we disrupt the rhythm we have grown accustomed to, we tend to experience all kinds of freaky side-effects.
Many ailments are kept nicely in check when we are on our A game, moving along in a solid rhythm. However, when we disrupt the routine, we can create an opening that can leave us momentarily vulnerable as our body adjusts.
I'm not particularly familiar with any scientific data on this topic, just what I've glanced here and there and from my personal anecdotes. But it does make sense to some degree, even from a scientific viewpoint. The way our body releases different hormones and regulates our metabolism and immune system, is all governed by certain rhythms in our life. When we sleep, when we eat, when we exercise and so forth. So it does seem plausible that if we turn something upside down, we may experience a shock of sorts.
Or it could just be a coincidence. People get sick, that's just normal. Especially more so when we get older. And the fact that a particular ailment hasn't surfaced before now, doesn't mean there's something special going on. It might just mean that it's "about time" it happened. The fact that it didn't happen earlier - that could be the actual anomaly.
